I think it’s kind of obvious that he’s talking about absolute terror. I don’t think he meant pound for pound either.

That's why I address absolute numbers first. It's trivial to say that a country of 340 million people with a 250 year history have killed more people than a terrorist group that has existed for ~40 years with a few hundred or few thousand members. Every country has killed more people than Al Qaeda. Is it really the case that every country is worse than Al Qaeda? This is the kind of meaningless conclusion that the claim leads to.

I think using all of 250 years of American history isn’t needed either, if you compare both from the founding of al-queda, the US is still culpable of more unjust terror and violence across the globe.

I disagree. If you don't normalize, the statement is trivial, as I say in the video, and meaningless. If you do normalize, then the US is much better.

I mean, normalising it is kind of irrelevant and besides the point here though. We’re talking about real world material harm, and the US overshadows al-queda by orders of magnitude in terms of real world harm. That’s why I think he didn’t mean pound-for-pound.

this is americans overanalysing shit to somehow prove they are the good guys, murder is murder and the us has been far more murderous than any nation, regime or group since world war two

I think it is deeply hypocritical. And Hasan Piker and the other Hassan can kiss my ass!! Hasan raised in Turkey but lives in America uses America’s freedom of speech primarily to attack America. If an American living in Turkey constantly attacked the Turkish government in the same manner, that person could face censorship, prosecution, detention, or imprisonment. In Turkey, criticizing the Prophet Muhammad or allegedly insulting religious values can result in prosecution, imprisonment, death threats or face mob violence. The government arrests journalists and suppresses political dissent. It makes no sense to exploit the freedoms protected in America while disregarding that comparable criticism is treated as a criminal threat elsewhere.

it's wrong because america created al-qaeda and al-qaeda has been an extension of the us military and was it's preferred proxy militia for 45 or so years, their kamikaze strategy was so compelling to the us, israel, nato and the gulf states

I’ve never seen someone be so nerdy about excusing US terror. Or maybe that’s all of them. Idk, I don’t find them in the real world.

I think any country that have MILITARILY killed more innocent people than any terrorist organization, should be embarrassed. And no it’s not meaningless…your bullshit argument is.

Such a meaningless comparison, pseudo intellectualism at its finest. If you fail to recognize the role of american intervention and kills to enforce its world view on people, it sums up to much more than qaida, refer to afghanistan

Al Qaeda had thousands of mercenaries across Asia before 9/11, of which were for example used in Djihad for the first chechen war

It's pretty challenging to think about who is or isn't in Al Qaeda and where to draw the line on affiliates or members and what exactly they are responsible for. And, how should we expand the American active duty count to mirror the AQ extent captured -- should we include reserves and national guard, closely allied forces, etc. I don't mean the claim to be complete, as I say in the video, it's a crude estimate, but I think it's directionally right. The US has much greater capability than AQ, and harm per capability will make AQ look worse than the US if we could accurately quantify.

Nas Said24 days ago

I agree, I also like how you distinguished deaths based on will and capability too, many would probably cause more destruction if they had the means to. However, Al-Qaeda was an international mercenary organization. Meaning, recruits from Pakistan, Middle-Asia, the Gulf, north Africa, etc. were paid a monthly wage to be under the jurisdiction of AQ. When the "ummah" (people of Islam worldwide) are under the attack, in this example, Chechnya from Russian forces, AQ would mobilize fighers from around the world, in the thousands, to take up arms with the Chechens.

America trained and funded Al-Qaeda. Which means everything they did is also America's fault.
