America needs reform — again. We needed it after the Civil War. We needed it during the Great Depression. Eighty years later, we need it now. Two failures are breaking the system. First: gerrymandering. Out of 435 House seats, only about 22 are truly competitive. That’s not democracy, that’s... incumbency protection. Second: Citizens United. Ross Perot got 19.9% of the vote in 1992 and scared the daylights out of both parties. So they quietly collapsed the system around third parties. 2. Gerrymandering. Local authorities draw the congressional districts. If they like you, your house is in. If they don't, your house gets cut out. Are we in a real democracy if the politicians are picking the voters? We are tribal and we are disconnected. 3 things would actually fix it. 1. End gerrymandering. In a democracy the people are supposed to pick the politicians. What we have now is politicians picking the people. 2. Massive campaign finance reform. End the separate but equal democracy where money buys legislation. Hard to do because these politicians love the money, but it has to happen. 3. National service. Whether people like the idea or not. George McGovern a staunch Democrat and Bob Dole a staunch Republican got along because they served in the US Army together. They fought in the Second World War side by side. In 1985, 85% of Congress had served in the military. When people share something that hard and that real, the tribalism breaks down. We’ve lost that connective tissue entirely. We need to find a way to reknit this country before it’s too late.

God is NOT a God of tolerance. He is a God of PATIENCE. And those are not the same thing. But patience has an expiration date. Since Roe v. Wade, America has ended 66 million lives. That's the entire population of California and Texas combined. And we want to call that a political issue? When Pharaoh was murdering babies in Egypt, God didn't call it politics. He called it sin. Chuck Grassley has been in office so long I think he’s the great grandfather of George Washington and he’ll be here 600 years after all of us are gone. That’s not democracy. That’s incumbency as a permanent condition. They redistrict to strain out their enemies and bring in their allies. Is this a real democracy where politicians are picking the voters? I thought it was supposed to work the other way around. There 435 congressional districts in the House, only 19 are genuinely contestable right now, 181 lean Republican. The Republicans have won far more redistricting battles than the Democrats. So even with Trump at historic disapproval ratings, he’s got a real shot of not losing Congress. I think Trump loses the House, but not by the margins he should lose it by if we had fair districts. And he’s smart enough to hold a midterm Republican convention in early fall. Fix gerrymandering. Everything else is downstream of that.
