Wonder how much these negative outcomes correlate to high populations of blacks and minorities.

Tomas Pueyo's profile picture

The map above shows the share of Blacks. Correlation is not causation though. I think a bigger factor is the economic inheritance of slavery. I look into this here:

it's straight-up IQ and a small prefrontal cortex. the high concentration of subsaharans in the southeast parallels outcomes for like-kind that weren't shipped to America. We just made subsidized poor nutrition a thing for all poor people, white and black = obesity, stroke, and chronic disease. Low IQ and high physicality leads to high frustration and poor coping skills and self-restraint.

and I'd argue that modern black southerners over last 100 years were some of the most welfare subsidized people in America with Affirmative Action and jobs, earned income tax credits, EBT, section 8, free medical/dental, prison, adjudication, supervision and incarceration, as well as education. Most poor whites are declined assistance when they apply.

blacks in the South have stayed ghetto because the Democrats rely on their votes and subsidize their poor behavior from low IQ and high violence with endless welfare funded by taxing working whites.

and you forget that General Sherman tore out all the rail lines from Atlanta to Savannah, thereby depriving the South manufacturing industries. Where this didn't happen, manufacturing kept on.

Northeast supremacy

People don't realize this, but the ultimate reason why this difference exists is... climate. Climate determined viable crops, which determined the economic system of the North (free capitalism) vs South (slavery) I show this here:

Tomas Pueyo's profile picture
Tomas Pueyo6 months ago

The replies are completely confused about the conclusion The gap between North & South is mostly a consequence of slavery. That's why we see most of these differences SHRINKING. North & South are converging

I wonder if we can find any sort of data that could help us solve this problem... Hey here is the black population map.... weird...

Midwest slams on every map. Guess binge drinking is the answer to a quality life.

Dan's profile picture

Its a map of where the blacks live. Also if you were actually paying attention, excessive drinking is not similar.

Tomas Pueyo's profile picture

The issue is actually much deeper. It's rooted in climate. Climated caused the US Civil War and its outcome

Alex Younger's profile picture
Alex Younger6 months ago

@scrollvoid Are you from the US? The south simply has more fertile land in general, capable of growing most crops of the north and more. This is not the issue. There is a vast ethnic and cultural divide between the north and south that still exists to this day. We are not the same.

Zeke's profile picture

@tomaspueyo @scrollvoid You just described climate my friend

Alex Younger's profile picture
Alex Younger6 months ago

@tomaspueyo @scrollvoid His argument is that the south couldn't grow "easy crops" which is not really true. The south can grow just about anything. So yes, I mentioned the concept of climate, but I am disagreeing with his main point.

Tomas Pueyo's profile picture

@zekequil @scrollvoid Today, not back then. You should actually read the article.

Clark Cordell's profile picture

Unpopular take. Abraham Lincoln was a fool for not letting the south go. They have been nothing but a cultural & economic disease on this otherwise great nation. They have keep the rest of the country from reaching our full potential. The south is a parasite.

Tomas Pueyo's profile picture
Tomas Pueyo6 months ago

Absolutely not! The south has as much potential. It is crucial for the US to have the best geography in the world A lot of the South's inherited problems come from slavery, and the gap with the north is shrinking

Conservative governments and religiosity will do that

Tomas Pueyo's profile picture
Tomas Pueyo6 months ago

If that were true, the South would not be converging economically with the North. It is.

⚾️ Brandon Youngblood ⚾️'s profile picture

The economic epicenters are in the north and west. Whatever wealth is generated elsewhere and moved to the south doesn’t touch the poorest and most disadvantaged, systemically speaking. Poor education and fewer safety nets render more suffering.

@tomaspueyo Every map was a Democrat city What the fuck are you talking about Its blacks Blacks don't vote republican They're to fucking stupid to help

@tomaspueyo Racist trash like you are also central to the problem. You fucks look at the map and think it’s about race when it’s literally you degenerate fucks holding the country back

Sort of, but the differences between these various maps are ultimately more interesting (and sometimes actionable) than the underlying demographics that drive the broad similarity

Tomas Pueyo's profile picture
Tomas Pueyo6 months ago

Well the drive is not just demographic. A lot of it is economic history (consequences of slavery, which meant massive investment in slaves vs infrastructure, inherited bad institutions, etc)

I’ve never seen someone so close and so far at the same time. It’s a race map. That’s it. You’re talking yourself in circles about climate and slavery and geography and all this other nonsense. It’s just race. That’s about it. And everyone knew this till pretty recently.

Mississippi is one of the worst in every single thing shown on this map, been under complete Republican control for the last 16 years. How do you help people who refuse to help themselves?

Tomas Pueyo's profile picture
Tomas Pueyo6 months ago

I don't know the specifics of Mississippi, but on average the South is converging with the North economically. It just started from a much worse position (slavery and its aftermath were really bad economically)

Can you overlay this with "regions where slavery and jim crow created generational wealth gaps"

The "where the white trash and rednecks live" map. And the map colors confirm exactly that. Apparently the white nationalist who put the video together didn't know that they were undermining their own intended message.

As an Utah resident, this immediately raised a red flag. There are few places in the country more religious than Utah, so I looked at the subtitle under Religion and found “Baptists as a share of all residents” 🤨 not exactly representative of “religion” broadly
