Hoy cumple años Sam Mendes y todavía cuesta creer que su ópera prima fuera American Beauty (1999) Hay pocas formas mejores de debutar como director. Una película imprescindible para entender el cine de finales de los 90.

Sam Mendes enjoyed his 61st birthday over the weekend & he’s not only an incredibly successful director, he’s a man who’s constantly pushing artistic boundaries. In the 26 years since Mendes’s film American Beauty won five Oscars- including Best Director & Best Picture- the film has turned into a divisive piece of work (for some reasons more obvious than others). But it doesn’t change the fact that American Beauty still holds up as an exceptional film that was worthy of the awards it won. Cheers to Sam Mendes & hoping he has many more films up his sleeve. 🎂

American Beauty is 26 years old today. The film was Sam Mendes' directorial debut, the title refers to a breed of rose that looks beautiful on the surface but has roots prone to rot. This serves as a metaphor for an attractive façade that hides deep-seated problems.
