This is why home-schooled students are the future business owners of America. Public schools are not teaching students anything constructive. You cannot succeed in life if you can't read or if you have no critical thinking or problem solving skills.

It’s the parents and the schools. The parents model behavior at home. If they don’t emphasize education at home and the schools abdicate their responsibility as well, you end up with kids who are illiterate and incapable of critical thought.

Speaking with my niece and nephew, both have pulled their children out of public schools in favor of homeschooling. My personal opinion, from that outside looking in, is that public school policies are focused on indoctrination not education, with a few good teachers doing this best they can in the face of institutional flow. During an evening discussion with my niece, she said that to her, it wasn't so much that they weren't teaching children to think, as much as they appeared to be actively teaching them not to.

Idk, I've seen countless boomers opt out of thinking at all. At the grocery store. On the road. At events. Just choosing to be completely oblivious to anything and refusing to read anything that would clarify things.

I know a guy who refuses to try and learn things on his own. Had to watch a video on how to weed eat properly instead of figuring it out. Had to watch a video on how to give a dog a bath the right way instead of just giving the dog a bath and figuring it out. He had to look up how to properly wash a car instead of just washing the car. He looked all of those things up and then did none of them still. He wants to argue about everything that you say and it's up to you to provide his proof to you that he's right as he refuses to look it up to see if he's wrong.
