American tries Pizza in Italy 🇮🇹🍕
34 Comments

As an Italian from that area, I have a lot I could say about comparing this to American Italian food… 😬 but I won’t, because you’ve been genuinely nice and respectful to our culture and our food. You just arrived a little “unprepared”😅 Yes — we don’t serve pizza already cut into slices. We’re not babies — that’s what we say. (But you can ask the waiter to cut it and they will… if they remember. If not, ask again. They’ll do it) This is actually one of the best ways I’ve seen someone approach our culture: curious, polite and not entitled. You’re also in a tourist area (Lake Garda), but a quieter, smaller one, so it doesn’t feel like the big-city circus right now. A side note: They’re not being rude because you’re not being rude. Try being a jerk and you’ll get the full Italian stare, plus the rant to go with it 😅

Just tear it, and nothing beats Italian San Marzano, Pomodori and Roma tomatoes! 🍅🥫👍🏼

I’m loving your videos. It’s a pleasure to see someone respectfully enjoying all that Italy has to offer.

I don’t know if it’s everywhere but my colleagues in Italy would order pizza and have it more like table bread and just tear it as desired

Try and find Sicilian Canolli. Thank me later 🤣

Roman thin crust pizza is the best, there are a number of small owner/operator places that make that style. It’s the best style in Italy.

You can’t judge pizza if you don’t try it in naples first.

Pizza in Italy means Naples, that's the place you wanna be for great pizza. Now, since you're at it, Florence should be your next move for some great meat: the Fiorentina steak. And also, Sicily: the best street food you'll ever have.

as an american recently living in europe i love your videos and completely understand lol

My mouth is watering. Find somewhere to try ragu. Or rissotto.

While you’re there, you have to do the full Aperol Spritz Aperitivo experience around 6–7pm. That’s the ritual. Tip: at that hour, look around and sit where the drinks come with a proper spread of food, not just a lonely bowl of crisps. If the table next to you looks well fed, you’re in the right place!

I can only suggest you to have a stop in every region of Italy: you will find typical local food in each of them and it will worth, trust me.

I’m so enjoying your food journey through Italy - good on you, pal A genuine delight on my timeline

One eats a pizza with a knife and fork in Italy! 😃😄

You need to try "pizza al taglio" - it's the Italian version of takeaway pizza where they offer a selection of rectangular pieces of pizza wrapped in paper that you can eat as you walk along. No need to sit down in a posh restaurant, and much cheaper!

Northern Italy is not pizza-land. Still better than Domini’s but…

Pizza is overrated in Italy

When back in the UK you need to try Taste of Italy in Chelmsford. It regularly wins best pizza in the UK and they bring in ingredients from Italy. My favourite is their white pizza with salsicca e friarelli.

I am sorry, but you want a good pizza you have to go south. There you can have very good bigoli, baccalà mantecato, sarde in saor...

Conducting yourself as just yourself - respectfully - is greatly appreciated in Italy. Be open minded, respect the culture and you’ll be greeted and treated as most Italians would treat their own.

Not a foodie at all but I do enjoy your videos. Also the quiet voice and respectful attitude is a major plus.

No! For pizza you don’t have to use knife and fork.

You seem like such a lovely guy. I really enjoy your videos. The softer voice, the pizza folding, the comparisons to the Olive Garden. Hilar. Great stuff.

Hmmmmmm ? Seperated at birth???

The first american who dont scream for communicate !

Try a carbonara over there, it is amazing. Also tiramisu is the best.

You guys are so great. Trying everything and finding out that where things come from originally are invariably better.

@mamboitaliano__ This lovely man is looking for recommendations! ☝️☝️☝️☝️

Florentine steak in Florence... top tier meal

Bro you should have tried neapolitan pizza 🍕 that's the original

This pizza looks average by the way for italian standards

@Nicole_Nikki_01 American pizza is by far the best because you can put all the gobbildy gook on it

As an American who's been living in Europe for 10 years, I'd like to say Italian pizza is great, but after a while you really want pizza that's sloppy.

Try italian ice cream in a waffle cone. You will go crazy!
