🇺🇸 Americans are now questioning why the Snow doesn’t stick to the trees or settle on the grass…..

OMFG falling snow typically covers a parking lot faster than grass because paved surfaces like asphalt can become much colder than the ground beneath grass, allowing snow to accumulate on top without melting. While the soil beneath grass acts as a heat sink that keeps the surface warmer, pavement often acts as a cold, solid, and flat surface that directly exposes falling snow to cold air temperatures.

Well one of the explanations is this area is located a bit more south, thus the day before is a bit warmer, the parking lot is more like rock and does not have much moisture content in it, thus it reaches the freezing point faster. The grass and trees have water content in it so it'll take a little longer to reach the freezing point (think how long you need to make ice or boil water), that is why the grass and trees are not necessarily allowing significant accumulation that doesn't melt upon contact. Pretty sure if that area is still at or below the freezing mark, it'll see accumulations by now, or worst case scenario it's in one of the ice storm area, god bless those electric wires!!

Southerners Snow doesn't stick to trees in high winds. Pavement is colder than grass in winter. So your grass must be warm and pavement cold. Snow always sticks to pavement first.

Totally normal in the northeast. Ground is still too warm. Pavement chills quicker and holds the cold. Too soon to stick to trees.

The same reason bridges ice up first.

A little research by some people will explain to them that Snow comes in two forms, wet or dry. When comes to covering every surface it lands on I think that may be dry snow, the wet is when doesn't cover Trees. Images i feel show the difference between wet and dry

It’s because Americans aren’t all that smart.

The ground is horizontal, grass and trees have mostly non-horizontal surfaces. When the snow is thicker / deeper it will build up on grass and tree branches - where gravity allows.

Noticed exactly that, last Friday, in east Tn, the snow layed on the warm asphalt and concrete in my area. But not the grass….. which is 100% backwards…..🤪
