How many Congressmen is incredibly important. Washington got angry when they wanted each Rep to have 40,000 constituents up from 30,000 like the Constitution Actually Says. He wanted representation and no kings. Now it’s 800,000 per. You can’t Gerrymander 8000 Reps.

PoliticsGirl, I agree that obsessing over 2028 while Congress is dysfunctional misses the immediate problem. But I think this has been building for decades. Citizens United didn’t legalize unlimited direct donations to candidates, but it dramatically expanded unlimited independent political spending by corporations and unions. That helped create a system where enormous wealth can buy enormous political influence. I’d go much further on reform: cap the influence of mega-donors, ban corporate contributions where constitutionally possible, require full disclosure of political spending, and slam the revolving door between government and lobbying shut. Leave Congress? Fine go work in private industry, but you shouldn’t immediately turn around and sell your government connections to the highest bidder. And Congress needs transparency. Stop burying unrelated bullshit inside massive bills. Give major provisions separate votes whenever practical. Put every member’s vote online immediately in plain English: name, state, bill, YES or NO. Make accountability unavoidable. Then address congressional longevity with serious debate over term limits and stronger ethics rules. We need lawmakers who understand today’s economy, technology, healthcare and working families not politicians insulated from ordinary life for decades. Before worrying about 2028, fix the damn institution that’s supposed to govern right now.
