Congressional Democrats are calculating that the pain and suffering their shutdown inflicts on American families is worthwhile leverage to acquire new power. The Trump EPA has worked as much as possible to mitigate the damage of the Democrats’ refusal to reopen government, but with carry over funding at the agency drying up more each day, the next shutdown decision ahead of us will unfortunately have to be the most severe.

He’s used every tool available to keep troops paid, air travel moving as much as possible, and programs operational for women, infants, and children — but these funds aren’t endless. When you shut down the government, it doesn’t actually shut down. Most employees at the Department of Homeland Security are deemed essential and required to work without pay. That’s why Congress should pass the Shutdown Fairness Act — to ensure people are paid on time and to stop Democrats from using Americans as political pawns in their dysfunctional partisan games.
