Whitby was famous for Jet, the black stone. In Victorian times and beyond, it was a popular stone for jewellery pieces which were worn by widows, there being quite a lot from all the wars! There were lots of little Jet shops once.

Whitby is a brilliant British seaside town . Loads of nice spots around that coast, Staithes , Sandsend and Saltburn are all worth a visit.

Glad you enjoyed it mate. Make sure you go to York too!!! It’s even older.

The site is almost 1400 years old but obviously that building isn’t - it’s 13th century.

Slains Castle in Cruden Bay Aberdeenshire was the inspiration for Bram Stokers Dracula in 1897.

There are some beautiful natural hiking spots in Yorkshire too! Hope you get to check some out

Really atmospheric place.

Every Halloween there are performances of a Dracula play in the Abbey grounds. The 199 step stairway down to the town is where Dracula, in the form of a hound, escapes from the shipwreck. Stoker took the name of his first victim from a grave in the church next door.

Love Whitby

Whitby is a beautiful town i love it, it gets to busy in summer from people from Leeds which does my head in coz Whitby is Middlesbroughs coastal day out not theres! Wlaking around Leeds utd tops on gravy all over it mongs day out. Go to Scarborough instead Leeds people!

What I don't get with this kind of reactions is that if they take into account the history of America before colonization, the US also has some very ancient sites. But it seems indigenous history is not considered US history.
