Americans will quickly move on. They will think that it is unfair that people in the rest of the world do not like them. But in Denmark and the rest of Europe, these insane statements will never be forgotten.

Similarly, in Canada we will not forget the depths the U.S. stooped to. It will take decades, if ever to repair the damage

Rasmus Jarlov's profile picture

The worst part is that US Americans will not even remember how they treated Canada either. A year from now they will go around thinking that the Canadians are just unfriendly and ungrateful for no reason and will have completely forgotten how they acted.

💯 agree. It has made me realize how naive many of us have been about the extent of American exceptionalism that is pervasive there.

The agreement will turn out to be very expensive for the US. The loss of trust among allies will take decades to recover.

Absolutely. The changes in the new deal are so small that it is absolutely not worth the damage that has been done.

What type of apology would work for you? Alaska stands with the Arctic Council and we need to know how to make amends after he's out.

Rasmus Jarlov's profile picture
Rasmus Jarlov6 days ago

We will never get an apology from these people. We know that. An apology from the next president would certainly be appreciated. But trust is gone. We can not depend too much on the USA when something like this can happen and when it is a coin toss every four years if someone like this will be elected as president.

And you shouldn’t! Just like Canadians will not forget. But capitulating to any of Donald Trump’s tantrums is not a good idea. There is only one active US military base in Greenland. The other ones were not maintained so they’re closed. There’s a reason Donald Trump wants to reopen them and have more access to security and Greenland military. Anyone who doesn’t believe Donald Trump will share security with Putin is delusional. Anyone who doesn’t believe Donald Trump wants access to Greenland’s resources for himself and his oligarchs is delusional.

American here. I won’t think it’s unfair that people in the rest of the world don’t like us. I’m sorry to say they’ll be right to feel that way. And I think many (a majority?) fellow Americans feel the same.

SOME of us Americans know we need DOMESTIC NUREMBERG TRIALS so these crimes against our Constitution are not forgotten One thing our friends abroad can do is get ready to start amplifying the voices in USA calling for our own Nuremberg Trials

Very true. I’m hoping Trump respects the deal he signed with Greenland. We Canadians feel the same about American comments about our country. When a superpower threatens your sovereignty it’s not easy OR advisable to move on or forget.

I'm truly sorry, Rasmus. Many of us are. I hope one day we can drive the sickness from our country that allowed this man to be elected, and then not brought to heel when he so manifestly needed to be stopped. November will be revealing.

European leaders are insane. A guy threatens to annex them and then they decide to sign a security agreement with more American basement. Pure stupidity

Rasmus Jarlov's profile picture
Rasmus Jarlov6 days ago

Jeg er ikke enig. Forholdet er fundamentalt forandret. Der er ingen i Danmark, der længere mener, at forholdet til USA er vigtigere end forholdet til EU. Det mente de fleste ellers indtil før dette lorteshow.

Disagree. Trump is a disgrace & will never be forgotten. He has hurt us as much as anyone else. He has divided the country more than anyone else. He is not liked by the majority of us. The Trump name will live amongst Benedict Arnold & Jefferson Davis. He is a traitor to America.

Imperium Americanum is over. Not even a Democrat POTUS in the White House 2028 will be able to fix the damage that Trump caused. Europe🇪🇺🇬🇧🇺🇦🇳🇴 knows that 🇺🇸elected this orange lowlife moron TWICE. The 🇺🇸is able to elect a Trump2.0 again. Maybe not in 2028 or 2032. But 2036?

You're just upset cuz DJT freedom agenda has won the day. No more stale danish pastry agenda in Greenland. You're not gonna be able to force that nonsense on the good people of Greenland, anymore. The good people of Greenland are gonna have freedom & nothing more

It was the US that drove the Nazis off Greenland during WW II when Denmark had already surrendered. Greenland should've already belong to the US. Denmark & Greenland are lucky to get this agreement since this island should've solely remained with the US

Will the signed agreement pass the scrutiny of the Folketing and the Inatsisartut? Can US aircraft fly over and land anywhere in Greenland? Because the logic has been reversed: American freedom is the rule and any restriction requires consensus, which in practice gives the United States a veto over limitations.

@MalcolmNance Sane Americans won’t forget how much damage has been done. Sadly, we are ruled by tech bros who have enough money to buy whatever politicians that benefits them and F the rest of the world.
