The Comoros is now claiming that Alindi is part of their culture! 😬🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ Across the Horn of Africa, many ethnic groups are strangely obsessed with Somali culture, constantly claiming elements of our heritage as their own. The question is, why don’t they take pride in what they have? And if they have no history or cultural legacy to stand on, why not create something unique for themselves? Everyone is welcome to celebrate our culture, but it becomes pathological when you start claiming what clearly isn’t yours. Alindi is a traditional Somali fabric, handwoven in coastal cities and worn by Somali women for generations. It was mentioned by Ibn Battuta in 1330 during his visit to Mogadishu, and it was traded widely across the seas, reaching as far as the Arabian Peninsula and India. Alindi is a symbol of Somali craftsmanship and cultural identity. I call on the Somali Ministry of Youth and Culture to officially register traditional Somali clothing, such as the Dirac and Alindi, as part of Somalia’s intangible cultural heritage through international platforms like UNESCO and similar global registries. We’re tired of this relentless obsession with Somali heritage. It’s time to protect and internationally recognize what rightfully belongs to us.

This birthday feels different. It's a reflective one for me... looking back at how far I've come, while feeling incredibly excited about how much further I want to go. I've been fortunate enough to do so many things I truly love. Naval Ravikant shares the common thread he sees across the great companies “I definitely believe that, as an entrepreneur, you’ll never accomplish anything great in life unless you stick with it through the end.” In this clip from a 2011 interview with Jason Calicanis on This Week in Startups, Naval shares that he was reminiscing on the several amazing companies he had seen in his career: Dropbox, Twilio, Airbnb, Square, Twitter, etc. “I was thinking to myself: What was the common thread amongst each of them? It’s very hard to draw a common thread across such a large group. And I realized that the entrepreneurs were extremely deliberate in every early decision that they made. They were not haphazard. And the reason is because they really felt like they were laying the foundation for a 10-year business. None of them were thinking of it as something they would try and flip.” He continues: “That’s necessary, but not sufficient. Calling for the cancellation of Ojude Oba because of Nigeria’s current security challenges may sound reasonable at first, but it overlooks what the festival truly represents to the Ijebu people. Ojude Oba is not just a celebration; it is a cultural institution that has endured since the late 19th century through colonial rule, political crises, economic hardship, and periods of national instability. For generations, the festival has served as a symbol of unity, identity, and continuity for the Ijebu people. To continue celebrating it in difficult times is not an act of insensitivity, but an expression of resilience. Communities do not preserve culture only when life is perfect; often, culture is what helps people endure hardship and maintain hope in uncertain times. Acknowledging insecurity and mourning victims of violence should happen alongside preserving traditions that strengthen social bonds. If every cultural gathering were suspended because of national challenges, many important expressions of identity and heritage would disappear. Ojude Oba’s continuity sends a message that fear and instability will not erase a people’s history, pride, and communal spirit.

Oh man, buckle up, Somali brothers, it is your sister abla talking with no filter, just straight chaos and cackling like we are sitting around fire in summer camp talking about international marriage drama on steroids: Remember like three years ago? Yeah, 2023, peak pandemic hangover era. Somali dudes were out here acting like Morocco was the new Costco for wives. Flights booked, suitcases packed with qabil pride and zero game plan. TikTok full of adeers landing in Casablanca like “Yo, found the upgrade! Cheap mahr, beautiful vibes, no drama!” They were hyping it like Black Friday deals, “Moroccan queens better than Somali queens, wallahi!” Airports looking like Somali hajj but with more henna and less sense. Fast forward to now those same Moroccan brides? They leveled up harder than a Fortnite skin. They grabbed those passports, citizenship papers, legal docs in the diaspora bag like Pokémon cards, said “Thanks for the green card upgrade, habibi,” and bounced. Now there is whole TikTok groups popping off of Moroccan ex wives spilling tea, roasting Somali ex hubbies like it is an open mic night. Confessions on loop“He thought he was getting a submissive queen, but I was getting a free ticket to freedom!” Laughing emojis, divorce dance challenges, the works. And the queen of the group? This Moroccan woman who divorced her Somali guy in the UK probably after he asked her to serve him pasta for every meal and calling it “fusion cuisine”then she slid right into a Pakistani husband. Pakistani dude probably showed up with biryani game on lock, and hided his “my mom says” energy. She is out here laughing, remarried, posting “From Mogadishu pasta to Lahore rice” vibes. Hard flex & gained lot of weight & became the human whale. So yeah, Somali kings who thought they were playing 4D chess? Turns out it was checkers, and the board flipped. Those Moroccan brides played the long game….got the papers, got the exit, got the glow up. Now they are in group chats like “Who’s next? Tag your ex!” while the Somali brothers left holding empty suitcases and lawyer bills are just staring at the ceiling like “What happened to ‘easy marriage’?” Hard luck to every Somali man out there still swiping on that Morocco filter. At the wrap party for Phantom, the director gave words of encouragement to Janeeyeh. —— Director: Let me interrupt for a moment, because I think all of us really should give more encouragement to ZhiYu and ZhiYu’s older sister as well, because they’ve been through a lot. She came from Thailand to Taiwan for filming, and even though she is of mixed Thai-Taiwanese descent, this is one of the few times she has truly “grounded” herself to work here in Taiwan, so she’s been carrying a great deal of mental pressure. She also worked incredibly hard to nail every single state of her character. Honestly, I hold her in high regard because her effort, every movement, and every part of her performance truly moved me. At those most “expensive” moments (the crucial, high-stakes shots), she would always bring her expression to the perfect place. That's why we were both so amazed; we both felt so warmed by her. I truly respect this actress for being able to persevere until the very end, even though... (clip end) —— Our Janeeyeh did an amazing job, we’re both proud of you 🥹 #janeeyeh

Last night’s Burna Boy concert was a visual storytelling masterpiece! I TOLD DEM. In the word of late Virgil Abloh is storytelling of the ordinary every day through the lens of an extraordinary creative! #BurnaboyLondonStadium live was a full band, with superb dance and vocal performance- as expected if you’ve been to a burna concert before you know he leaves no stone untouched! But let’s get back to the storytelling - From Giza grocery store set design, a nod to his hit with rising star Seyi Vibes who actually came out in grocery store uniform, to artists getting haircuts in a makeshift salon before hitting the stage, it was incredible. Africa was truly on the map with performances by Benson ,Pheelz🐘🤟🏾 , OMAH LAY Snoh EZEGE 1 , INDUSTRY MACHINE ⚙️ , Shallipopi , TITO M, YUPPE SNE, and many more… We saw general Odumodu locked in a phone booth before his release for his verse with Shalli and the Twashala Bam crew getting haircuts live. Over 500 Rwandans from across the Nordic countries gathered in Norway to celebrate Umuganura : Rwanda’s National Harvest , alongside members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Norway and the vibrant African diaspora. This year’s Umuganura was the best ever ! A powerful celebration of culture, unity, and Rwanda’s forward-looking vision. A standout moment was the engagement with Alain Ngirinshuti from Rwanda Social Security Board who flew in from Rwanda to share two groundbreaking government initiatives: -Housing Projects , designed to give every Rwandan a dignified place to call home. - Ejo Heza , an innovative long-term savings scheme that enables all Rwandans, including children, to secure futures through voluntary savings and pension benefits. These initiatives reflect the Government of Rwanda ’s bold and inclusive approach to nation-building, ensuring that no one is left behind , not even abroad. Oasis Wembley - 25th July 2025 One of the best gigs EVER They were just incredible, Liam and Noel both sounded fantastic The atmosphere was unlike any gig I’ve been to, everyone belting every song out and just having an amazing time Getting to do the Poznan with my Dad during C&A after we didn’t think we’d be able to stand in the same section was such a good moment The tribute to Ozzy during Live Forever then dedicating Rock n Roll Star to him was beautiful I feel so fortunate to have got my ticket knowing how many people close to me tried and failed to get some Seeing all of these bangers live on their return to Wembley after all these years Never thought it would be possible Unforgettable.

Candce Owens is one of the most honest and down-to-earth people I’ve ever had the chance to interview. Over the years, I’ve interviewed every type of person imaginable from nuns to politicians to actors and after you sit with someone for sometime, once the small talk fades, you get a real sense of who they are. Candace is an incredible mother with a beautiful, loving family. I also had the honor of meeting her genius husband, a genuinely great guy and honestly, way more straight-laced than I expected lol. I’m grateful I got a glimpse into their beautiful family life, but most importantly, we talked about some really interesting and important issues. I also gained a lot more respect for Charlie. He truly lived as a believer and honored the sanctity of marriage. I had no idea Charlie saved himself for marriage, I honestly think that’s absolutely adorable.
