I work at a hospital in an emergency room and part of my job is to deal with insurance stuff and the hospital I work for now has added this paper that I have to give to old people and try to make them sign who are in the emergency room and sometimes people like can go to get physical therapy and stay at a nursing home from the emergency room and we just hold them there until it's time to go based on their insurance. But they want me to give these poor old people this piece of paper that says you may have to pay $3,500 a day for your stay if your insurance doesn't cover it. Dr. Caleb Masterson say health insurance companies are openly breaking laws in Alabama He explains some of his patients situations with insurance companies - “I had an insurance company tell a patient that no authorization for the procedure was required, the procedure was performed, and then the patient was denied the care because the procedure was never authorized. So the patient got charged the entire cost of the procedure” - “I had another patient who is supposed to be due an answer to an insurance claim within 30 days of submission. If they do not reply within 30 days, that's breaking Alabama law. This nurse was caught stealing from a patient in a nursing home. This is way too common. Happens everyday. They would steal my granddaddy's clothes and slippers. Had to put his name on everything.... and that still didn't stop them . I saw a video of 2 black nurses removing the wedding ring from a nursing home resident. The lady had really bad arthritis in her fingers. They had to straighten it to get the ring off. That had to be excruciating pain!

Pitting patients and their doctors against massive companies is not good for anyone. Americans shouldn’t have to negotiate with their insurer to get the care they need. We are actively working with industry to make it easier to get prior authorization for common services such as diagnostic imaging, physical therapy, and outpatient surgery. Thank you to the insurance companies for their commitments to reform this broken system.
