this all happened when i was an early teenager, and i remember it so well. iwas one of the things that helped radicalize me back then. I was a huge ali fan, and it started with me wanting him to keep his career, but i developed my huge sense of unease back then about what was happening and what i was being told. i found myself agreeing with what he said. and, knowing that in a few years i would be up for the draft, it turned into anger very quickly. it's so basic - the notion that i could be forced to kill people that i had nothing against, simply because they were 'the enemy' for reasons that were so unclear even then.

My Vietnam vet dad doesn't talk shit on him. He says he stayed here and fought it. He doesn't speak highly of anyone else that refused to serve. He has a lot to say about Donald Trump and none of it is good.
