An Australian journalist was hit with a reported rubber bullet while covering LA immigration protests. 9News US correspondent Lauren Tomasi was shot in the leg by a non-lethal round from an officer in riot gear. Footage shows the officer turn toward the cameras before firing.

9News says Tomasi and her crew are safe, calling the incident a reminder of the risks journalists face at protests. Protests erupted over President Trump’s immigration crackdown. Trump has deployed the National Guard, despite opposition from California governor Gavin Newsom.

Thankfully, this incident wasn’t fatal—but it serves as a reminder that so-called “less-lethal” weapons used against protesters, while often considered relatively safe, can still cause serious harm.
