I’d read an essay on male and female monologues in cinema. I have a theory that because misogyny is real, the female monologue is an inherently more assertive act. As in: it’s common to hear a man roar. But, then you hear Julia Fiona Roberts.

A lot of great male, monologues but I’m trying to highlight the qualitative difference of the female monologue. It’s just obviously more transgressive for women to grab the right to speak by the throat. Catherine Élise Blanchett and Dame Judith Olivia Dench

A conventional definition of a monologue is an extended speech. But, I think a more precise definition is when a character suddenly becomes the urgent and prolonged emotional center and everyone has to gravitate around them. Vanessa Lynn Williams.

You’ve ruined my weekend, I’ve never thought of the monologue in that way. I’ve always considered the best monologues capture the raw basics of humanity regardless of gender, whether it be Norma in Sunset Blvd, Quint in Jaws, etc. I’m going to be thinking about this all weekend.

this definition reminded me of another showstopping monologue by julianne moore in magnolia the pharmacists trying to talk over her while she keeps going makes this scene more powerful and ties back to your notion on what makes an effective monologue

My biggest gripe when it comes to pro wrestling is when people are playing pro wrestler, when it feels like they are playing a character. It bothers me. John Cena doesn't act, feel, look like a bad guy, and so for me, it feels inauthentic. It feels forced. When you don't explain two months later the partnership with the Rock and the union with Travis Scott, it feels flat.

I understand why they have these standards in place it is so common for someone to not be as far along as they think and see a viable pregnancy the next ultrasound, however, in this case it is an impossibility for this to be a viable pregnancy. It feels incredibly cruel to make me go 2 more times for ultrasounds to see an empty sac when I'm already grieving just to be able to get the medical intervention I need. It feels cruel to feel pregnant and awful for 3 more weeks when there's no baby. My body is not understanding my hcg is basically stagnant and I have no idea when I will naturally miscarry. It could be next week on vacation or my body could never get the hint and I'll need the 2 ultrasounds and dnc. We are heartbroken over this loss and miscarriage care shouldn't be like this💔
