Unlike Trump, Xi understood that a new class of business titans could hijack his country’s political system.

Private equity and investment bankers have taken over many US healthcare and education system. It’s all business and for profits. Smaller hospitals and schools are being swallowed up or taken out by bigger ones. Even student loans are at 8 or 9% interest

What gets me most is his genuine shock and sympathy. We have become the third worlders that we used to feel sorry for. Now we're on the receiving end (but less deserving of the pity cuz we caused it ourselves)

The shock for me came when I learned how little Chinese citizens pay for their education, yet, had access to an educational system that is far superior to ours.

The Ivy League was $100,000 for all 4 years, including both room and board, when I went. My parents pre-paid the $100k to lock-in that price. I graduated in 2.5 years and got a nice refund. Bought a brand new 1996 Honda Civic stick-shift hatchback with my college rebate.

The U.S. government does not adequately fund public universities like China which speaks to the unfathomably high tuition costs compared to China. It is surprising that China offers great quality and opportunities in a fraction of the cost.
