I am fighting hard for real and effective regulation of Big-Tech’s social media platforms and the harms that they can cause. We need a systems based approach that holds the Tech Giants accountable for the algorithms that drive their platforms, expose people to harmful content, disseminate misinformation, and profit from outrage and conflict. The government’s planned 16 year-old age ban for social media platforms doesn’t do any of that. It’s why I provided my own Private Members’ Bill to parliament to deal with Big-Tech’s algorithms. And it’s why I couldn’t support Labor’s Social Media legislation as it stands.

A few weeks ago the Irish government informed the EU that they would not go along with demands to force hate speech laws on the people of Ireland. Today, the European Commission Against Racism and Intolerance has once again urged Ireland to implement hate speech laws. But even regime friendly media is reacting negatively to this news. There will never be hate speech laws in Ireland, it's time for the tyrants at the European Commission to accept that.

Speaking at the WEF, the Prime Minister of Spain says he wants to “force all [social media] platforms to link every user account to an European Digital Identity.” He argues this is necessary in order to combat “hate speech” and “misinformation,” an example of which is that “the state is a scam working against the interests of citizens.” He also wants to make sure “social media CEOs are held personally accountable for noncompliance with laws and norms in their platforms” in the form of stiff fines and believes “the tech-billionaires want to overthrow democracy.” We must fight tooth and nail against the global ruling class’s attempt to shut down our right to speak.
