An SUV driver is facing assault charges after allegedly hitting two cyclists in Georgia. Police said the man behind the wheel initially blamed the cyclists for the crash.

Are people seriously blaming the bicycles here? Bicyclists are following the traffic laws. Maybe the AH driver can wait until it is safe to pass. What is the big hurry?

Good. We are threatened by rednecks in their F150s every week. The law in our state says cyclists get three feet. Drivers can cross the double yellow to pass us. But they feel like they need to make a “statement”.

Not justifying what he did but why are they all bunched up and not single file on the side of the road? Speed limit is probably 45-50 right there... GTFOW

Why would he do this? If he insisted on passing them, he could have easily driven in the other lane where it was absolutely clear to do so.

Those GD bicyclists have such a sense of entitlement. They should've gotten single file to the side to let traffic pass them. They're partially to blame for what happened here.

@SharonCoryell3 I know drivers get frustrated with cyclists but it’s so easy to go around and avoid any close calls. I’m a cyclist and drivers take way too many risks passing close.

Bad behavior is rubbing off on people. They don’t realize they’ll actually go to jail.

The cyclist’s were 100% at fault. At some point in time, bicyclist’s have to be held accountable for blocking the road. Roads are for automobiles.

He could have easily moved temporarily into the OTHER lane, with no oncoming traffic— if he was in some huge fucking hurry & couldn’t just accommodate cyclists.

I'm not a big fan of cyclists, but that was a country road with no traffic. The driver needs to be jailed.

Cyclists blocked the road and made contact with his car, not the other way around, and without any resulting injury, which negates the need for the SUV to stop. Best they can do is cite him for passing in a double yellow. Sue the department for false arrest.

My father always taught me: pass only when you can see oncoming traffic for a great distance and then take up the entire left lane as you do. This guy was clearly trying to hit them

Maybe the bikers need little mirrors on their shoulders to move over and make them buy license plates, pay fees and taxes for using the roads. I wonder what the speed limit was.

The cyclists are not sharing the road

When there is a "car back" cyclists should make every effort to get into a single-file formation and stay as far to the right as is safe. Car should have honked, braked and waiting for cyclists to go single file. Both are to blame.
