An update on SFUSD: Schools are closed again today. I’ve spoken with parents across the city—they’re frustrated, and I’m frustrated too. The union and the district are back at the table this morning, and I know they can get this done if they keep talking. Our students belong in... show more

I want to speak directly to San Francisco’s public-school parents and our students. I know many of you are worried about the possibility of a teacher strike that could temporarily close schools—and I want you to hear this clearly from me: our kids come first. As mayor, even though I don’t oversee our school district, I’m deeply committed to making sure our kids get a world-class education—with safe public schools where kids can learn and educators are well supported. It is crucial that our schools remain open. Every day in the classroom matters. I have been in regular contact with both the school district and the teachers union, and I am urging them to keep talking so kids can keep learning. Our working parents can’t afford to stay home if schools are closed. Our special needs students can’t afford to lose access to vital services that help them succeed. Schools are the foundation that makes daily life possible and helps every family in San Francisco thrive. I am also actively working with city departments to ensure we have options for our students in the event that classrooms do close. But I want to make one thing clear—what is best for our students is for the adults to continue discussions at the table so we can keep kids in the classroom. I will continue pushing for solutions that keep our schools open and our students learning. San Francisco’s families deserve nothing less.

Through the last week of negotiations, I’ve been saying to our school district, our educators, and our parents that I want our kids to be in school on Monday. The conversations were productive yesterday, continuing well into the night, but it appears that now, work has ended for the evening, and our public schools will be closed tomorrow. I’m disappointed that the parties could not come to an agreement. And frankly, I’m frustrated—real progress has been made, and there are hours left in the day that should be spent working to keep schools open tomorrow. There is no reason both parties can’t be at the table right now figuring this out. These are complex and important negotiations. That’s why I, and other city leaders, asked both parties this morning to allow three additional days for schools to stay open while conversations continue. I have made myself and my office available to both parties at any time. I have been here all day, and I will stay as long as it takes to get this done—but I am continuing to urge the parties to reach an agreement as soon as possible. At the same time, our team has been preparing for this scenario all week. The city is ready to provide support to public school students. That includes meal distribution for students who rely on school for food access, extra hours at community childcare centers and Rec and Park programs, and community safety resources to keep kids safe if they’re not in school. If your family is impacted by school closures, please check in with your childcare or afterschool programs to see if they have extended hours. Local public libraries are also open as normal—but remember: children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. For resources and information, visit San Franciscans deserve schools where students thrive and our educators feel truly supported. I am disappointed that the parties couldn’t reach an agreement today, but I will continue to do whatever I can to keep the adults talking so our kids can keep learning. And I have talked to the leaders on both sides, I am confident that if they come back to the table and stay there, they can get this done quickly.

🎙️| They can't afford to put their flip flops on. A lot of them are out of contract. If they are staying here or not, they are playing for moves and contracts, so that should keep the foot down on the pedal and keep us with an appetite. The ones who want to stay have to keep going to impress David Moyes too, let's see how high we can finish and keep pushing - Michael Ball 🔵 Listen and watch now...

I want nothing more than for DC 33 to return to the table—because Philadelphia needs your expertise now more than ever. You are the subject matter experts who keep our city moving. The people who maintain our infrastructure, keep our public spaces and neighborhoods clean, and serve our communities with pride. This city works because you do. And I am committed to getting back to the table to negotiate in good faith and reach a fair and fiscally responsible deal. Let’s get this done—together.

🚨 Arizona: I only caught the end of this 2nd group. All across the US southern border this is the daily occurrence, kids cross the US/ Mexico international port of entry back and forth back and forth back and forth, with little to no adult supervision.. The district school busses or even private vans arrive here at the port of entry and wait for them to cross, they then are taken to the schools, allegedly. They are dropped back off in the afternoons. So many scenarios play out in my mind, what are your thoughts? I’m going to try and take a picture of these drivers so you can see what I’m talking about…

❄️ Many schools in Moray and across the North East are closed again due to heavy snow. I raised this with the First Minister today. In 2021, he promised every child a laptop so they could learn from home. Another broken SNP promise, and children are paying the price.

As students return to the classroom today, Ontario is adding nearly 20,000 student and child-care spaces in 35 new and expanded schools across Ontario. We’re investing a record $30 billion to build and upgrade schools so students have the space they need to learn and succeed.

Why is there a push to close Chicago Public Schools on May 1? According to the Illinois State Board of Education, only 1 in 3 CPS elementary students are proficient in reading and only 1 in 5 are proficient in math. Our kids need more time in the classroom, not less, yet Chicago parents are being asked for their kids to lose another day of school on May 1st for a political Day of Action. Parents and kids rely on schools for learning and consistency. Closing schools will send parents scrambling for babysitters or losing wages to stay home to care for their kids. For some kids, schools are where they get their meals and are the safest place they’ll be that day. As a CPS mom, I have skin in the game and expect my son to be in school where he belongs on May 1st. Keep Chicago’s students in the classroom, parents at work, and focus on the city’s test scores, not its politics. #chicago

NYC received 2 inches of rain in one hour and this is the madness it caused. And NYers keep complaining but they keep voting in corrupt idiots. If they get a tropical storm this summer they are done.

San Francisco’s public school students will now have more access to 1:1 tutors. SFUSD is expanding tutoring to reach 2,700 elementary school students, with a focus on improving third-grade literacy. Thank you to SFUSD and SF Ed Fund, for partnering with our Department of Children Youth and their Families and coming together on this tutoring expansion. And thank you to SF Parents for your advocacy in service of student outcomes. My administration will continue working closely with SFUSD to ensure students have the resources they need to succeed. Through our Family Opportunity Agenda, we’re focusing on what helps kids and families thrive—making sure every child has the support they need at key milestones, including in the classroom.

WATCH: "The President understands he needs to keep the bombs going. He needs to keep the negotiating going, and he can’t flinch. So they are the schoolyard bully. When you confront them, they back down, and when you let up, they come at you again... He’s got the leverage, and they are going to continue to pressure Iran." Reince Priebus

Day 3, and the Liberals are still flooding Kew High St with Amelia Hamer’s face - 20 signs up already, and they’re in court at 11am to fight for their right to keep going. Will they get to over 50 again? Truly, the battle of our time.
