This is how the WarTHunder Forums work Argue a untrue 'fact' about some classified military hardware and wait for someone to leak classified docs just to prove you wrong

It works the same online. If you want the engagement to answer a question don't ask the question. Make an incorrect statement about the subject and people will flood in to correct you.

And all this time I thought I was just a paranoid asshole for correcting random too friendlys with slightly vague inaccuracies.

Saw a post where someone was like if you want tech help on reddit, post your question then log in on a second account and provide a wrong answer.

Cunningham's Law states "the best way to get the right answer on the internet is not to ask a question; it's to post the wrong answer."

I remember Egyptians asking me in the Naples Gut how many troops were on our ship and what we did all day. They got really frustrated and left because I insisted all we did was play chess onboard the ship.

Classic simple and effective, so why aren't they trained to recognize and not divulge? They sell their trade craft for fiat

Yup. I unintentionally do this, usually because I don't want people to feel pushed into the conversation, I just make statements. The amount of information I've gotten out of people though is insane. This method is also how War Thunder leaks occurred.

I do similar in everyday life.... It is amazing what the average person will divulge freely.

True. Ask a question online and look at the responses you get. Make a wrong statement and then look how many will try to correct you. It works with everyone and in all cultures.

The antidote to this is to just agree with people and act surprised they knew and tell them how smart they are.
