And just like that, we suddenly have a better Google Earth right inside Unity. Wow.

This is Geospatial Creator from @GoogleARVR

One day, Google Maps will be an animated open world game

I wanna see numbers lol, how much the rendering cost, cpu overhead, streaming delay etc

Tbh the main uses I see are: - referencing AR assets against real world (no runtime use of the streamed data if not wanted for extra accuracy) - extracting 3D data for various purposes, now 50x easier then before* - no runtime data use * I haven't checked API terms of use yet

On Cesium I can’t find many cartography of cities itw. For exemple Paris (where I’m from) isn’t there. Still cool tho!

the power of culling and LOD

Plus running photogrammetry algorithms and simplification for, like, the entire world 😅

Have they made this available to use and download outside of Unity and Aero? Like why can’t I just download a section out of google earth

It's using 3D Tiles (glTF-based) and Cesium's viewer, and it's a regular web API - I think you actually can download a section of Google earth with the right API key now. What's extra in Unity and Aero is the VPS (visual alignment plus GPS), haven't looked if that's portable too

dude that's where I live, what the actual f 😅
