Kamala Harris: We cannot despair. We cannot despair. The nature of a democracy is such that I think there's a duality. On the one hand, there's an incredible strength when our democracy is intact. An incredible strength in what it does to protect the freedoms and rights of its people. Oh, there's great strength in that. And it is very fragile. It is only as strong as our willingness to fight for it. And so that's the moment we're in. And I say do not despair because in a democracy, as long as we can keep it, in our democracy the people, every individual has the power to make a decision about what this will be. And so let's not feel powerless. Because then we have been defeated. And that's not our character as the American people. We are not one to be defeated. My heart goes out to Charlie Kirk's family. This is a tragic shooting and from all appearances, it is an act of political violence. Political violence is on the rise and it is a sign of crisis and weakness in a democracy. I condemn all forms of political violence. He said: “I just wanted to say, welcome to the end of Democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely. We didn’t get all the way there on January 6th but we will endeavor to get rid of it and replace it with this right here (a cross necklace). Together with all of our allies and partners, we have achieved such a level of cooperation which ensures that democracy, international law, and freedom are respected. There have been attempts to ignore and disregard what we value. But now it is impossible. Now our power is growing. Anyone who might want to wage aggression against a democratic country sees what the response will be. And the more we all work together, the less likely anyone else in the world will follow Russia's insane path. But is this enough? Democracy needs more. I think we need the clear global leadership of democracy. This is the main thing that we provide with our cooperation.

I am Aisha Yesufu, a proud member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). I came out to protest today because our democracy is under threat What we are seeing today is an attempt to silence a nation, to intimidate citizens, and to reduce our democracy to the personal property of a few. I refuse it. Nigerians refuse it. We say NO to tyranny. We say NO to corruption. We say NO to a government that has turned hunger, fear, and hopelessness into national policy.
