Why are you never completely honest? Andy Burnham: 'when public opinion has changed to the point where the call has to be considered'. John Swinney (last year): his benchmark is public opinion ahead of the 1997 referendum. 74% voted for the creation of the Scottish parliament.

We made our choice. Respect it. Such an issue is something that cannot be revisited every 20 years or so. It has to be much longer, if ever at all. A 45 years or so interval is acceptable like the EEC/EU referendums.

There’s a 4.6m electorate, a clear majority will be around 2.5-3m votes. They are unlikely to offer one on a 50:50 knife edge, probably a 60%+ or even a 2/3 You polled 875k votes at the last election, you’re about 2m votes short. The working class are taxed heavy and lost votes.
