He was squeezing out tears because his father died recently and who apparently would have been so proud of him. It was for effect and it worked for the other clowns in the labour party. I was crying too, tears of outrage as he didnt address the elephant in the room, our borders!!

Are you kidding me? You actually don't know? The next point was about his father who died only days ago. He had a moment of emotion. Who wouldn't? When I lost my mother and my brother, no way could I have got up and given a speech like that.

Weird - waiting all that time for applause. He didn’t look panicked though did he? Just knew it would be coming because he’d said something momentous?(!). Possibly waiting for someone in the wings to whisper his next (forgotten) line? As you say, all very strange.

Someone was talking to him in his ear and stopped. You can clearly see him trying to listen, holding his head to the side. I think the ear pierce went dead.

The guy with the applause card fell asleep, then realised Andy stopped speaking and eventually held up the card. The conference was so tepid about him, they had to be told when to applaud.

Can’t help thinking he’s using the death of his father to gain sympathy voters. And he said he wasn’t going to be a point scorer.
