Another anniversary. Another early England exit. Another sad BBC montage. On this day in 2002, the Beeb used Stop Crying Your Heart Out by Oasis, after an early morning quarter-final defeat to Brazil. Iconic.

Nobody mentions Beckham jumping out of a challenge before Rivaldo’s goal. I’ll never forget it anyway.

I remember reading a review of Oasis’ Heathen Chemistry album that came out just before the World Cup that said about Stop Crying Your Eyes Out something like “expect it to be played on TV when England get knocked out of the World Cup”.

Wasn’t able to watch the game because I was doing my English A Level exam at the time. Have such fond memories of this tournament though, especially the Argentina game.

If we’d not drawn to Nigeria in the final group game we’d of been on the other side of the draw to the final. And maybe been able to do it

In an OB truck outside the stadium producing that sequence. I’ve not seen it for years. At half time we were making the happy version.
