You can run, but you can't hide! Recently, two officers from our Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS) team responded to assist an outside agency with searching a building of a business that was burglarized. These burglars attempted to avoid capture, but underestimated the skills of our UAS pilots. Our pilots launched the UAS into the attic of the business and located not one, but TWO suspects hiding. Both suspects surrendered to law enforcement and were booked for burglary related charges. This incident highlights not only the special skillsets and tools that the Sacramento Police Department possess, but also our collaboration with our outside-agency partners to ensure public and officer safety. You know the ol’ adage “caught with your pants down?” Somebody should’ve told this burglary suspect who was arrested by Lakewood Police Agents early this morning. When a verified burglary alarm went off, Agents quickly got to the scene and utilized a drone to look for a suspect. While we see a lot of things in the line of doody, we had no clue what awaited us this time! The suspect was taken to jail (after pulling his pants up) and is being held on 2nd degree burglary charges. Overall great teamwork by our Patrol and Drone Teams.

The Saint Paul Police Department has been using unmanned aircraft systems, or drones, since 2023. This technology provides officers with real-time information from above an active scene. Now in 2026, we’re expanding our drone program to help all first responders. Our team of trained drone pilots can now provide a live thermal view above a fire – allowing the Saint Paul Fire Dept to identify hot spots and develop the best plan of action. There are now two drone options: • A Saint Paul Police officer, who is also a trained and authorized drone pilot, can respond and launch a drone at the scene. • Or we can deploy one of our three new docked drones. Docked drones are remotely piloted, can be on scene in less than 3 minutes, and being to relay real-time information to responding officers or firefighters before they even arrive. On March 23, 2026, around 7:30 a.m., LVMPD officers responded to a violent incident near the 4900 block of West Craig Road involving a vehicle crashing into a business, followed by a stabbing and reported shooting. When officers arrived, the suspect had already fled. Thanks to our drone unit, officers were able to quickly locate the suspect from above—leading to a swift arrest. Watch this video from overhead as it unfolded. What we know: • The incident stemmed from a domestic dispute • The suspect crashed into a business before attacking a woman • Another person shot at the suspect • The victim was transported to a hospital • The suspect was arrested; the shooter was detained This is another example of how our drone program is helping officers respond faster, track suspects more effectively, and protect lives in critical moments. 🚨 DRONE PROVIDES EYES OVERHEAD DURING VEHICLE VANDALISM CALL At approximately 9:40 a.m. on June 17, LVMPD Communications received a report of a man damaging a vehicle outside a store near Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard. A remote drone launched from a nearby LVMPD Skyport and quickly arrived overhead, where it captured the suspect striking the vehicle’s windows with a bicycle seat and a brick. The drone pilot provided real-time updates to responding officers, giving them critical information before they reached the scene. While officers were heading to the call, Good Samaritans had intervened and subdued the suspect. David Huerta Salgado, 39, was arrested and booked on multiple felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor charges, including destroying or injuring property valued at $5,000 or more, injuring or tampering with a vehicle, resisting a public officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. When confronted by store security, the suspect fled east on foot. Fortunately, our Drone First Responder (DFR) program was already in the air and quickly located the suspect, tracking his movements to a nearby Arby’s at 80th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard. Responding officers arrived and were able to safely identify and contact the suspect inside the restaurant. During the investigation, officers discovered the suspect had an active arrest warrant and was allegedly responsible for stealing more than $340 worth of merchandise from the store. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to jail. The Drone First Responder program continues to provide officers with real-time information, helping improve response times and safely resolve incidents throughout our community.
