I'm Gen X and I can absolutely attest to the fact that we were taught that blood is blue until it hits oxygen. She's right!

I spent so many years of my life thinking that bears enter a full blown coma for half of the year.

I’m 54 years old. I was taught in middle school science that blood is blue until it is oxygenated.

I remember the sun being a warm yellow as a kid in the 80's, and now it's a dry hot white. 🤷🏼‍♀️

nobody was taught this lmao. you all are confused because in the visual aids in the biology books veins are colored blue to differentiate them from arteries and that's what you're remembering. deoxygenated blood is a very dark red, and oxygen rich blood is bright red, cause human blood is based around iron. your veins only look blue because of the way light penetrates the skin and blue wavelengths are reflected the only animals that have blue blood are octopus, horseshoe crabs, and animals whose blood is copper based, and not iron.

I was as well. Like verbatim “blood is blue until it is exposed to oxygen.” Which doesn’t make any sense at all but it was still said to me by multiple teachers in both elementary and middle school.

Wtf I just looked this up and it says that its never been blue. Same thing as your heart is now in the middle of your chest. I remember being told to put my hand over my heart for the pledge of allegiance. This trying to change history right in front of us is complete BS.
