Another big drop from Hunyuan3D by Tencent. Hunyuan3D-Buffalo 1.0 is not just another text-to-3D model. The more interesting part is its approach to 3D understanding and editing. It can understand separate parts of a complete asset, extract them, remove or replace them with prompts, and edit only the selected region while keeping the rest of the geometry unchanged. That feels like a much more useful direction for 3D AI in general: not just generating a mesh once, but actually understanding its structure and letting you continue working with it. The model combines Qwen-VL, TRELLIS and Hunyuan3D, and was trained on an impressive dataset of 87 million 3D samples. Source:

📢GeomHair: Reconstruction of Hair Strands from Colorless 3D Scans📢 We present a novel method to reconstruct hair strands from colorless 3D scans by extracting orientation cues directly from the mesh surface geometry by finding local characteristic lines and from shaded renderings using a neural 2D line detector. We enhance the reconstruction with a diffusion prior trained on synthetic hair data and adapted to each scan using a tailored text prompt, allowing us to recover both simple and complex hairstyles without relying on color input. To support further research, we also introduce Strands400, the largest publicly available dataset of 3D hair strand reconstructions from real-world scans of 400 different people, featuring complicated hairstyles, such as ponytails and buns. 🌍 📷 Great work by Rachmadio Noval L. 19-year-old Diana Bahadoran, known as Baby Rider, a student from the city of Gonbad-e Kavus, is among over 40,000 #Iranian protesters massacred by the security forces of #Iran’s Islamic regime. She was shot and killed in #Gorgan on January 8, 2026. Bike riding is forbidden for Iranian women under the regime’s barbaric, anti-women laws. Diana was a professional bike rider, and by riding her bike she was actively protesting these discriminatory laws that ban women from riding motorcycles. Over the past week, you shared your New Year Resolutions for us. Features, ideas, hopes and thoughtful nudges on how we can simply be, the most Based version of us. Thank you for showing up and once again reminding us about why we do what we do. Our #BasedNewYear campaign is now officially closed but the job's not finished. We started 2026 by listening and now, we continue by building. We really loved what was communicated to us and some of these ideas will be the starting points of new verticals in our long-term roadmap. Excited to be building Based together with you. Winners of this campaign will be announced very soon and there will definitely be more upcoming initiatives to look forward to. Stay tuned & Stay Based!
