JUDGE EXPELS KANU FROM COURTROOM, FINAL VERDICT UNDERWAY The Federal High Court has witnessed dramatic scenes in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra. I note Prime Minister Andrew Holness’s remarks in a TV interview this morning. Neither he nor his Party has made those proposals as part of the process of constitutional reform. His proposals are therefore not in the report of the Constitutional Reform Committee, and will not be in the new Constitution coming out of that process. Furthermore, Mr. Holness’s proposals are not in the existing Constitution, and would violate the existing Constitution. This is in keeping with his and his Government’s unfortunate history of past violations of the Constitution of Jamaica. It seems that the Prime Minister wants to make up a rule which is not part of the Constitution or laws of Jamaica, to suit his Party’s political fortune at a time when it is waning. He has no power and no authority to do that. He needs to tell the country why his statutory declarations to the Integrity Commission cannot be certified. I am compliant with the Constitution and laws of Jamaica, and I undertake to the People of Jamaica that I will continue to be so.

Texas Attorney General Attorney General Ken Paxton tells me the fight CONTINUES against The Meadow (formerly EPIC City) and similar Muslim-centric developments, despite a judge's ruling that construction could continue: "One of the reasons we sued EPIC separately from this Workforce Commission issue is we felt like they were violating our state and federal securities laws and we think there are other issues involved with how they structured the transaction that are illegal. And we certainly think that they violated [federal] fair housing laws. If you're going to live in our country, you have to follow our state and federal laws. You have to follow our Constitution. You can't develop your own little community and then decide that you're going to determine your own laws that are separate and apart from the laws of the nation. And that is what's happening."

America’s federal marijuana laws simply do NOT make sense, and the enforcement of these laws are riddled with hypocrisy and injustice. We should be appalled that in this country some people, predominately and disproportionately Black and Latino citizens, are jailed, prevented from getting jobs, and/or struggle with finding housing…all because they did the same thing Senators, Congresspeople, and even Presidents have admitted to doing - even though there is no difference in usage rates between races or ethnicities. This double standard needs to end. It’s time the federal government to decriminalize cannabis and take action to right these past wrongs, which is why I’m proud that earlier this week, along with my colleagues Senators Widen and Schumer, we reintroduced the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act.

And I have to say, being in the room and it may not have been picked up if you are watching on television, when he said those two lines, there was a hush, almost gasp you would describe from the Democratic side of the chamber in that moment. That clearly resonated with certain members of Congress in the room. And then when he drove that point home by referencing president Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address, saying the world may little know what we say but will never forget what we do, that was as powerful a moment as anything that he gave over the course of that roughly 25-minute speech. And there were multiple opportunities for him to use his subtle nature to drive home a point. Right before that section that you had brought up, Tom, he talked all about how the United Kingdom and the United States need to reinforce their alliance and that they will ‘continue to defend our shared values with partners in Europe and the Commonwealth across the world’ and that they ‘ignore the clarion calls to become ever more inward looking,’ which, of course, has been a degree of criticism for the Trump administration at different points. The other thing I think is very interesting thing to point out, which you may not realize if you were watching at home, I had the prepared remarks in front of me, that the king did not at any point stray even a syllable away from the remarks that he had prepared to deliver hear in this chamber. A very research-much different approach from Donald Trump or any other president. Bill Clinton was known to stray from his script from time to time to drive home a point. Even when he was interrupted by applause or laughter, he would go immediately back to where he was in his prepared remarks. Just kind of an indication of the type of public speaker he is and the type of public figure he is that he had a very specific plan in mind, a very specific message that he wanted to send, and he did not deviate from that goal even little bit over the course of this speech.”
