Other Gold Star Widows are saying this specific benefit is for the kids DIC (Dependency and Indemnity Compensation), and the VA wants to oversee how it’s spent. I guess when you (the VA) recklessly blow through your budget on illegal immigrants, and the DOD fails to pass a single audit, ever, then taking it out on war widows makes sense.
