Palestinians in Gaza are not asking for much, a plastic tarp for protection, for privacy, we can at least provide that, right? A family’s dignity for $65? Shame on the world for putting a price tag on this. Donate now: Families are doing whatever it takes, individuals are working any job to support children, parents are finding ways to sustain a livelihood, to make enough money for the basic necessities. When we first met Tahreer she could not sit up on her own, her head had to be supported as it would fall to the side, and she could certainly not walk. Now, after over a month of physiotherapy, she is showing incredible signs of improvement. The 4 year old was referred to is by a doctor in the North. Tahreer suffers from brain atrophy since birth, with severe muscle weakness, and needed intense physiotherapy 6 days per week to give her a chance at controlling her bodily movement. But her mother could not afford the sessions. The Sameer Project covered Tahreer’s sessions, 6 days a week for over 4 weeks and we will continue to support as she makes progress. Each session is only 15 shekels but paid for in cash at 38% withdrawal fee. This small commitment from us, and all the work Tahreer is putting in, will change her life forever. We would like to make a deal with a physiotherapist center in the North for 20 children with similar issues and needs as Tahreer’s. These session would costs 25 shekels through bank transfer, with each child needing 3 sessions per week. For 2 months support this would come out to 12,000 shekels or $3,673 after the fees. This is Wurood, quite possibly the strongest 12 year old you’ll ever meet. Shame on the world’s leaders for putting her in this position. Wurood went to the upper most Northern region to check on her family’s home in Beit Lahia. Like everything in the area, it was destroyed by the occupation. Support: So with all her family’s belongings carried overhead, and on foot, she started the nearly 5 mile walk to Gaza’s Port to find a place to set up a makeshift tent. We found her mid journey and of course assisted her with a car ride to the sea, to ease her burden. Families, children like Wurood, are returning to the North to find their homes in ruins. We need to help them with tents, tarps, mattresses, blankets, and nearing rubble from the streets for easier movement. We cannot wait for larger relief organizations to eventually come in, if they ever do! We have to act now. A busy day for our team that went up to the border to rescue the abandoned cats. 26 souls were rescued (including a momma cat and her kittens). Most of the cats were quite bewildered by their abandonment and seemed relieved to be rescued. They will be taken into quarantine and made comfortable. Tomorrow the vets team will be busy checking each one carefully. Thank you to those who donated last night to support these cats. There is still time to donate if anyone can help us to help them. It never ceases to amaze us how much families in Gaza make with so little. But they are tired, they don’t want to be placed on a pedestal and exalted for their strength and steadfastness. They should not have to be this resilient, they should not have to be this tough just so barely survive. We have to do more. Our wonderful community supports, but the world is failing Gaza. This mother who lives at the Tuyoor Muhajera or Migrant Bird Camp in Khan Younis, the smile on her face, because she is happy when a bag of fruit is provided?? She shows a small single pencil, warn down to the stub, that all her children use for their studies. Is this what the world deems ok? It’s not sufficient and we must do more. We have to lift the onus of being strong and resilient off the tired shoulders of our brothers and sisters in Gaza and bear the burden for them, not in charity but in solidarity.
