Interesting that when Nigel Farage MP was leading UKIP - his party du jour - he allegedly insisted that any defectors must trigger a by election & to fail to do so is “dishonourable” & an “insult to voters”, acknowledging that most voters vote for the party leader, not the individual candidate. What’s changed?

Floor crossing should trigger an immediate by-election, whether federal or provincial. When an elected official switches parties, they betray the voters and volunteers who elected them under a specific banner. The public trust placed in them does not automatically transfer to a new party. If a member is so moved to join another side, they should resign and go back to the people to seek a fresh mandate. Anything less undermines our democracy. British Columbians and Canadians deserve better. Join me
