Honored that my son Luke Vlooswyk was selected by Hockey Canada to participate in the Program of Excellence summer meetings in preparation for the 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. 🇨🇦🏒 Sixty-six under-17 players were selected by a distinguished group of hockey personnel from across Canada. All 66 under-17 players have been drafted by Canadian Hockey League Canadian Hockey League teams, including 37 from the Ontario Hockey League, 15 from the Western Hockey League and 14 from the QMJHL. 🍁🥅 Director of player personnel Alan Miller said, “This impressive group of athletes is an excellent representation of the talent pool in our country, and these meetings were a great opportunity to kick off a new season and begin our preparations for two major international events,” Millar said. “This was a great opportunity to introduce prospective national team players to the Program of Excellence and help prepare them for international competition.”🇨🇦 Huge congratulations to Luke’s six Team Alberta Hockey teammates who were also selected to the Top 66 in #Canada: Connor Schmidt Jackson Smith Nathan Behm Braeden Cootes Hayden Harsanyi Kadon McCann 🙌🏒🇨🇦

While disappointed to miss #AO25 and interact with tennis fans in Melbourne, I will be watching from home and cheering on the players as they battle for glory. One more sleep!!!! I've been given the best present this Christmas - a surprise visit from my daughter and grandkids from Tassie (NOT AT THE TAXPAYERS EXPENSE). Thank you for everyone's tremendous support this year. I'll take a few days off to spend with the family and swim a few laps in the pool over these typically hot summer days before hitting the road again on January 2 across Tasmania. Be safe on the roads these holidays and I'll see many of you on the long list of stops we have planned in the New Year across the country. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The 21st Brigade of Somalia's Turkish-trained Gorgor Commando Force on Friday completed its advanced military training in Türkiye and is expected to return to Mogadishu in the coming days, according to security sources. The brigade will be replaced by the 22nd Brigade, which recently finished its basic training in Mogadishu and is set to deploy to Türkiye for advanced instruction. The latest rotation marks a shift in the training program, with an entire brigade now being deployed at once instead of the previous practice of sending a single battalion. With the addition of the 21st and 22nd brigades, the Gorgor force has expanded to six brigades, numbered 17 through 22, making it one of Somalia's largest and most capable military formations. Türkiye provides training, equipment and armored vehicles for the force, while Qatar finances the program. Although the commandos have not yet received more advanced weapon systems, they have been equipped with day and night capable drones and armored vehicles, significantly enhancing their operational capabilities.

The arrival of Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, CON, this morning for the graduation ceremony of around 250 citizens trained for free by the Professor Isa Pantami Foundation (PIP Foundation). The Foundation sponsored all the participants and provided start-up tools for starting their workshops along with a certificate. The graduation ceremony took place at Al-Waalidayn Charitable Foundation, Pantami, Gombe. The program is ongoing in batches and will take place in several states in Nigeria. This is aimed at producing self-reliant and job creators among our youth. The participants are selected on merit through an online application announced for each batch. In 2016, I moved to Nashville, TN on a whim. I had an offer to move here for a summer of hockey coaching. Fast forward a decade…I’ve been here coaching the sport I love in this amazing community. From a start up, to a small 3v3 size rink, to helping build a full size ice arena and travel program in 2021 for boy and girls…I’ve watched this city grow into a booming hockey market. We have elite players at all ages and many more to come. I couldn’t be more proud of these kids! This decade has been the most exciting, gratifying and rewarding experience I could imagine. Highs, lows and everything in between. Here’s to the last 10 years and I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years look like! Much love. ❤️🏒

Following a thoughtful decision-making process, we elected to pursue a junior college pathway to ensure sufficient time for paperwork and visa formalities. The support services provided by Garden City Community College were impressive, and we appreciate their dedication. Although the basketball experience at Garden City fell short of our expectations, we acknowledge that each program has its unique dynamics. We are now excited to explore alternative opportunities that better align with our aspirations. A critical component of our strategy will be a focused effort during the spring and summer to restore my confidence and elevate my performance through individualized training, structured conditioning, strength training, and film review. This period has been marked by growth and self-reflection, and we are committed to capitalizing on the lessons learned. With a strong academic standing and interest from Division 1 coaches, we are evaluating the potential benefits of another junior college year versus an international opportunity. The primary objective remains to refine my skills and secure the best possible fit.
