One of the reasons I talk about Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 so much is because… For the most part, the linear 3rd PersonShooter, Genre ended when the 8th Gen started. Nearly Everything had to be open world and/or have bloat. This is what we used to have. From XboxSeriesX

I hate this mindset aswell. “There’s nothing to do in the open world.” The entire game revolves around the inclusion of this open world!!! Not just free roam. Races, knockout tour, battle mode are all apart of the open world. Free roam is not the main selling point of this game!

Remember when dying in games actually mattered? No autosaves, no infinite retries. If you were in a challenging level or dungeon and you died, you lost everything. Is it a good or bad thing that we've gotten away from this? Some games are still like this, obviously, but most are not.
