as a guy who has been shipping so much in the open source, i sort of disagree with this take a little bit because open source software and open source ai models are the only way that we will be able to run these super powerful models on our hardware. i see open source as sort of fun

Dario is fighting a losing battle. Anything open source always goes on to outperform closed source stuff over time. It doesn't happen. Immediately, however it is simply inevitable.

That is simply wrong. Since the model is open, you can absolutely analyze each layer, analyze correlations and data paths and so on. You can even fine tune them with your own data. Something you can’t do with Anthropic models.

thats no reason to make it less open. A pic doesnt contain what generated the pic either. A pic of a plant doesnt contain the plants DNA that made it grow that shape, just the pixels, but you can still have an opensource pic, meaning you wont get sued for using or building on it
