Anthropic says it managed to block an attempt to use its AI model to develop biological weapons. The firm published its latest threat intelligence report detailing attempts at "malicious activity", and warned that, without safeguards, attempts at biological misuse "could have catastrophic consequences". In six cases, the Claude AI model was also used to try to develop software for conventional missiles and armed drones.

They could cause extreme havoc, for example, hacking critical infrastructure, building extinction-level bioweapons” I was able to find a list of these “unsupported regions” so we can get an idea of which country might have been trying to do this - China - Russia - Iran - North Korea - Cuba - Syria - Belarus - Myanmar - Venezuela - Afghanistan - Yemen - Hong Kong and Macau - Occupied parts of Ukraine Obviously this is extremely alarming but one thing I find interesting is all the sudden all these big AI companies are all asking for federal regulations and oversight at the same time The only reason I can think of for them doing this, all at the exact same time, is because they know if they have federal regulations it would make it much harder and more expensive for smaller companies to meet those regulations This could be a play to crush emerging AI companies and make it too expensive and impossible to compete with the bigger more established companies that can afford the regulations
