Anthropic needs learn from Duolingo

Bullshit people at Duolingo cared about the mission. They laid off half their staff to make a slop app that fails to teach anybody anything useful

Duolingo sucks and everyone is deleting it because they abandoned the mission.

this is epic, never knew this side of duolingo

Full interview:

how is the two comparable? i don’t care about anthropic or duolingo but everybody works for a paycheck, some just don’t want to admit it. would duolingo employees keep working there just for the “mission” if the company stopped paying them overnight?

is it a natural thing for CEOs get this PR-sensitive cringe after a certain point? honest question

dude is the jack antonoff of tech ceos

They already have thousands of employees, and I honestly don't understand why there are so many AI companies and in general, the people who join these companies tend to be engineers who have ALREADY achieved something in their careers- maybe that's why they aren't interested in creating something brilliant for others

crying

I need to watch the full interview cuz whattt 😭

I don't think Dario's mission is clear to their employees, maybe even he doesn't know/have a clear achievable mission. 🤷

Bad example. Duolingo imploded, and it sucks immensely.

Amazing interview 😂

need to watch the full interview 🤣

Easy for startups, and small companies to sustain this. Most people work for money, that's the Uber reality.

I wonder why his staff thought that way 🤔

communists think money grows on trees haha

lolllllll

@Asperjasp AI labs IPO race headlines are getting tiresome.

This guy sounds and looks like he fell off the banana boat

"idk but you've been paying our salary"

he has been. would you pay 1,800$/month for their max plan?

Duolingo figured out retention comes from experience, not mission posters. Dev tools are similar. makes API access to GLM 5.2, DeepSeek V4 and Kimi K2.6 frictionless.

your employees have NO responsibility in guaranteeing your business ir profitable. if you need them for a role in your company and they do what you said they would be paid for, then that's it. if their position doesn't make your company prosper that's just your bad managing

man without ego and high goals

😂🤣

but duolingo is not “free education”

Every fast growing company has this problem eventually, it is not unique to Anthropic. Mission alignment gets diluted the second headcount grows faster than the founding team can personally onboard people.
