When Lloyd started on Wall Street, his firm had a Bloomberg terminal but no one bothered to figure out how to use it. Lloyd used the screen to put Post-It Notes. One day, Bloomberg personally called to speak to Blankfein and asked “We noticed you haven’t turned on your machine.” Blankfein was shocked it was actually Bloomberg. He thought it was a waste of CEO’s time…but later in his career, realized that’s what made Bloomberg a success. “Everybody on our floor knew that Mike called and that he cared. The guy whose name was on the door cared about whether we were using [the terminal] or not. Here I am 35 years later telling the story and so now you’re hearing it. That was a very good use of 3 minutes of Michael Bloomberg’s time.”
