WARNING: INCREASED MORTALITY IN ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH DEMENTIA RELATED PSYCHOSIS Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death. Analyses of 17 placebo-controlled trials (modal duration of 10 weeks), largely in patients taking atypical antipsychotic drugs, revealed a risk of death in drug-treated patients of between 1.6 to 1.7 times the risk of death in placebo-treated patients. The deaths were cardiovascular (e.g., heart failure, stroke, sudden death) or infectious (e.g., pneumonia) in nature. Yet, despite the black box warnings added in 2005, nursing home residents are still given antipsychotics everyday as part of their polypharmacy 'medication cocktail' to keep them sedated & compliant. Drug manufacturers need to be held accountable for marketing drugs for uses that are known to be dangerous. I’m dropping my antipsychotic again after 18 years of use!!! 🎉 Ketosis heals. I used to take 80 mg of geodon, 60 mg of Cymbalta, and 5 Xanax a day. I’m now only taking 10mg of geodon. I’ve tapered slowly due to withdrawals. I open my capsules and weigh my geodon in order to do smaller drops. My pharmacy only carries 20 mg capsules. This needs to change. Not everyone can or should take these drugs. My drugs stopped working and now only give me horrible side effects. Robert F. Kennedy Jr I never thought I’d get here. 🙏
