My first thought was that air resistance on an object that dense is likely close to negligible. Would love to see how much the air drag and sound travel time affect the result

so much extra work when a back of the envelope calculation will get you a 95% correct answer. d = 0.5 * g * t2 add a bit for the initial velocity downwards

I'd take off 6 feet because the thrower is probably 5' tall and holding the rock 1' over his head. The hole starts at his feet.
