Anyone calling Death Stranding a "Walking simulator" hasn't played it Even the first game has really good Combat mechanics Literally one of the most unique games ever made.

I started it in 2021 for the first time. Got about an hour in and absolutely dispised the game. That was until early 2024 when someone was streaming it and some beautiful music started playing. I was like oh that's nice. Started you tubing the song, listened to it religiously for like a week, and thought ya know what, I'm gonna play that death stranding again. Got to that particular song and now had great context and feel about it. Saw the game from an entirely different angle. I enjoyed every second of that game there after.

It's a delivery simulator. The combat is secondary in both, more so in the first. It's so close to being an amazing game, but delivering packages is not that compelling.

The only bad thing is that the Bola Gun Is so good you barely need anything else

Most unique, but I very much wasn't enjoying it. I've been a Kojima dick riders for decades now, but I just couldn't give a shit about DS.

I like Death Stranding, got the platinum on the PS4 and PS5 versions. It IS a walking simulator, but it’s not JUST a walking simulator. It’s so much more than that.

All opinions but I put 35hrs into death stranding and it was so bad imo I went into game depression and did not play games for 3-4 months. I hated it so much that I needed a full on break to recover and still have not beaten it and never will. EVER

Here's my hot take. DS1 was a phenomenal experience. DS2's traversal was so easy and so frictionless it's basically a tri-cruiser/off-roader simulator.

Shut tf up It IS A BORING WALKING SIM. And it was a financial disaster

Its a walking simulator dude. Does not mean its bad. Some people just dont like that.

I mean it’s unique but it is also a very, very slow, repetitive, and dense game with a heavy narrative focus. It’s not for everyone; it’s a niche game.

You definitely have to force your self to keep playing

Played both of them, both shit. Sold poorly

Usually when you make a statement on a game and post a clip along side that statement, the clip supports it. Or is this what’s considered “really good combat”? And unique now a days?

As a big DS fan no the first game doesn't have really good combat mechanics. They're okay. The second game though definitely does.

What's the combat to walking ratio?

That "walking simulator" is one of the most anxiety inducing game ive played 😂😂 the miniheart attack when one item falls off or when i trip. It was a real journey each time.

Man I loved this game but calling this “Good combat mechanics” is a stretch and a half

Watching this video as you walk, and walk, and walk, and occasionally 1 shot an enemy, and then walk some more.

the core gameplay is a walkin sim sorry i know everyone thinks kojima is an arteur but he makes some of the most mid games...he wants to be a filmmaker like neil druckman

"Really good combat mechanics" Proceed to bola everybody then step on their head. So exciting.

Anyone calling it a walking simulator hasn't played past the 37 hour mark when the combat mechanics really come into play

...Are we watching the same clip? I can name games from 20 years ago that did a far better job of this exact style of gameplay. Oddworld Strangers Wrath for instance.

no i played. its a walking simulator.

A lot of people exposed themselves when they share their opinion that 2 is "more of the same". I mean not at all actually but go off 😅

MSG fan from PS1 times, but this is illogical therefore not immersive. No one would fight enemies with boxes stacked up on their back. You would drop them, clear the area and move on. Graphics look great but nothing I've seen made me interested in DS. Hollywood casting too

I love open world games but didn't enjoy death stranding... Unengaging and dull

It's funny because it is quite literally is a walking simulator. The best one there is.

Combat’s great, but I even loved the simple walking through the landscapes!

I still remember how annoying it was to try to aim my gun and then see how Sam holds his backpack instead. Worst button mapping ever.

And most importantly it makes you FEEL things. Most games today are awfully aseptic and don't have a soul.

It is delyverie simulator and it's ok. They've done a great job with it. And don't say the combat mechanics are good. They're barely average, especially from the team that made the mgs series

Freakin beautiful set of games. Brought me to tears and utter joy. It is an experience that speaks to many and I dare say that you will get different things out of it as you get older.

I played DS1 only recently when it came to game pass. Was always intrigued by it but never enough to pay for it, so on GP I thought I’ll give it a go, expecting to be bored - it ended up being one of my favourite ever games, I just loved it!

It is a walking simulator, that slowly morphs into a zipline simulator. Combat was the most basic and useless thing about the game inserted purely because it goes against the entire gameplay structure of the game, delivering packages fast and without damage.

The majority of the game is transporting goods though, which requires mainly walking and terversing the land. Its fun the first few hrs but like any game doing the exact same activity gets boring, but what makes DS even worse is that the activity of traversing is not that fun.
