Excellent point about the issue with the concept of a Global Town Square. I think we face only two possible paths to combating these issues. First is the authoritarian approach of policing public behavior that will lead to disaster. The other is some kind of reputation and trust system that respects privacy. This latter one is difficult to get right, but the alternative is somewhat terrifying.

There is a huge threat out there now. Find a target, capture social media content, train AI voice on it, call that person’s grandma and say you need help in a familiar voice. It forces us into digital ID and continuous biometrics unfortunately. No way to verify at scale.
