Anyone know why I can’t wash the front bumper camera?

As expected, works while parked

You can’t do it in FSD anymore. Have to disengage to spray then reengage. It makes no sense.

Yeah pretty silly. It’s one thing if I can’t activate it, but for the car to recognize it needs to be cleaned and not do it itself is extra strange.

Wait the front bumper camera is used for FSD now? That’s news to me

HUGE Tesla (“FSD”) flaw. Will never be unsupervised without a way to autonomously clean the cameras.

@Grumpy_Tesla It does work. But Yun-Ta said it only runs once to not waste fluid. More testing is needed.

It doesn’t let you do it while FSD is engaged

Have to be out of FSD to wash the front bumper camera. Probably because washing it while FSD is on would temporarily obscure that camera so FSD would ask you to take over anyway.

@bpitas A bit yes, but it’s more strange to allow the button to be pressed while actively in FSD. The default should be that the button is disabled while in FSD and the exception to clean is granted if it is obstructed enough.

@mmilosev @bpitas Agreed. But if the car feels the need to alert me that the camera is dirty, it should have already tried cleaning it IMO

Disengage FSD and try again. It will work.

I don’t think you can use it while FSD is enabled.

You can’t while it’s self driving. Disable, spray, enable. Happened with 14. It will spray in its own though but not sure ehy it wouldn’t have in your case.

I've never had one so what if you do it while you're going a slower speed? I know that doesn't make sense but I know you were going fast at the time.

In FSD it doesn't let you... it does it when it wants to.

On FSD, the front bumper camera should clean itself when dirty, just like when the windshield is dirty and the wipers turn on.

I’m learning so many things about my Tesla. I didn’t know you could wash cameras from the console. Amazing!

Every camera should be able to be washed.

You can do it while still driving but manually can’t do it while in FSD

You cant activate it while on FSD. It's a known limitation.

First rule of troubleshooting. See if it's plugged in. AKA washer fluid levels.

Consider coating the lens in ceramic wax. Not a replacement but could reduce the need for the front washer.

It works while you are driving too, the difference is when you are not on FSD.

Might be a reach but my only assumption is maybe if the temp is too cold, it would definitely freeze cause of wind chill, so they stop you from being able to use it? But that would be stuoid though cause you can get the kind that doesn’t freeze so

I don’t know. I don’t have a front bumper camera. Don’t need to wash it.

Have this same issue. They also need to ass washers on the front fender cameras and rear bumper cam. No way they can do unsupervised FSD in wet winter weather without this. Make it happen @Tesla @elonmusk I had to stop to clean the camera last road trip after a snow storm

That’s an essential camera. When a throng water spray hits the lens, the image is distorted, that could cause abrupt incorrect reactions. Trust Tesla

@yunta_tsai why are manual cleanings disabled while FSD is activated? Only reason I could think of could be additional debris collected or freezing in colder conditions while the lens is wet but not sure

now i know why musk didnt inc the front cam originally🤣🤣🤣
