Anyone remember when Nicholas Hoult was cast in Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning as “Gabriel” but then dropped out in pre-production but they still managed to squeeze in his pre-production photos into the Final Reckoning and he ended up NOT being Gabriel but rather a Young Ethan Hunt.

He was supposed to play him in those flashback sequences?

Yep and it starts making sense when you watch Dead Reckoning because they completely drop that aspect of the story and never answer or explain how Ethan and Gabriel knew each other and how/why Ethan was set up.

@Emiliovic1337 How? He was meant to be the villain

He was “announced” by the trades as the villain. But same way Andrew Garfield/Tobey wasnt in Spiderman Marilon Cotillard was NOT playing Talia Al Ghul The same way they won’t officially announce who Sebastian Stan is playing in The Batman 2 Or How Adria Arjona is “Maxima” Not everything you read is true and often times is speculative

@Emiliovic1337 Dont buy everything you see/hear or read at face value.

Okay but that’s not Nicholas Hoult

It 100% is and it says more that ur the only one who says so but the tweet has popped off.

It’s one hundred percent Tom Cruise

do u know any inside info on this?

Hahaha isn't Hoult six foot three?

lol hey man. The screenshots are there lol thats all I got.

I just know somewhere in there there’s a whole flashback sequence with Hoult’s Ethan and Gabriel’s first encounter written.

Oh my God, Hoult is the perfect young Tom Cruise...

YO WHAT THE FUCK

My face when I discovered that by accident when I sat on my remote and paused the movie

We need a documentary of something about why all that footage got cut on the Reckoning duology

Not true. Hoult was meant to play Gabriel, those pictures are of Tom Cruise. He was certainly never going to play a young version of Ethan.

If u think that’s Tom Cruise…I recommend an optometrist

I worked on Final Reckoning for 3 years (including the reshoots for Dead Reckoning). The first picture is a young Tom Cruise, the second is edited but still TC. Neither picture is Hoult.

wonder if @JakesTakes or @KevinMcCarthyTV ever noticed this

I never even put it together that they could be dopplegangers separated by a few decades 😲

I dont see it, thats just Cruise in make up, isnt it? How can you tell?

I don't know if you remember but McQuarrie did say that for Dead Reckoning they were planning a sequence with a de aged Tom Cruise that was probably the evolution of Hoult's role before they scrapped it all together

Agreed. I think after Hoult dropped out they were gonna de-age Cruise then realized the budget would go into the stratosphere and the whole Gabriel/Ethan set up/connection was completely dropped in Final Reckoning.

It’s wild that there are people GENUINELY mad and angry at me for pointing this out lol Like they can see the evidence right infront of their eyes and theyre making themselves believe it’s not so.

That’s just Cruise.

Nope. None of this is true Mr Engagement-Farmer. 😆

The pictures and screenshots are there and Chris McQ spoke about it. Sorry to burst your bubble Mr retard.

And yet McQ said repeatedly they didn't like the deaging and scrapped the sequence. Why have deaging if they've got an actor? It makes more sense that Hoult was a young Gabriel in the present and the flashback was done AFTER Gabriel was recast to try and tie him to Ethan's past

I had no idea!

WTF, I'VE NEVER NOTICED THIS

Wild that places like @joblocom @screenrant @ComicBook_Movie @Collider never picked up on this.

I still need to watch these last 2.

They're a little uneven but man...they're a fucking blast...The Final Reckoning becomes almost so self serious "If we don't leave RIGHT NOW...THE WORLD WILL EXPLODE" "If I don't eat this bologna sandwichBILLIONS WILL DIE" (maybe not that bad lol) but done in such a sincere and earnest way...that you're all in on it. And the Submarine Sequence in FR is...Chefs Kiss

@DaBeardedXeno The guy from severance is fucking great

@DaBeardedXeno And You must be out of your God Damn Mind

I just watched this 4K tonight. Movie rips so hard, such a genuine goodbye and love letter to the recent franchise.

That's just Tom Cruise in make-up...

@grok can you expand on Hoult in Mission Impossible

You've got a good eye Stunt man mike

That’s Cruise
