AOC: When people see a ballroom and, at the same time, see their health insurance getting cut off, they know that they are paying for that ballroom with no health care, higher grocery prices, and increasingly unaffordable housing. And so I think people are pissed off about it, and they should be. It’s wrong. This is a complete theft of our money. This is what I want people to understand: this is our money. When you pay your taxes, that money is being stolen to pay for a vanity project like a ballroom, or to renovate the Kennedy Center, or whatever it is that this guy wants to do, instead of what it should be used for—paying for things that actually benefit you: better roads, health care, and more affordable groceries.

AOC: The Republican Party’s brand is fear. And they have to constantly churn out what they want people to be afraid of—to be afraid of socialists, to be afraid of immigrants, to be afraid of women. They constantly want Americans in fear of somebody because, if you are not afraid of someone who is your neighbor, you’re going to realize who’s actually pickpocketing you. And that is the large corporations that are engaged in profiteering and jacking up your prices for no good reason. It’s going to be this administration that is engaged in record levels of swindling, theft, tariffs, and attacks on your housing. And so this is kind of their new thing of the day. But I think that people are feared out. I think everyone’s nerves are shot from constantly being taught and told what country, person, or community to be afraid of. And they just want a solution. They want their groceries to be more affordable. They want to figure out how we’re going to get health care. They want our housing to get under control. And I think that we’re ready for an affirmative vision, and we’re ready for an affirmative agenda.

AOC on Inflation: It’s not easy to just find a cheaper apartment when every apartment or every home in your area is the same unaffordable price. And so what is so challenging about this is that this isn’t just like going to the grocery store and buying the generic cereal and switching over. How do you actually accommodate when you can’t afford medicine, when you can’t afford your housing? This is a crisis… MacFarlane: Do you think the administration is taking it seriously? AOC: No, they’re making it worse because what the Trump administration is doing is entering sweetheart deal after sweetheart deal, whether it’s with Monsanto and our food supply with glyphosate, whether it’s housing, whether it’s, you know, these crypto agents that are engaged in money laundering—I think at least. I think they are not only ignoring it, they see it and they are actively making it worse. And what they think is that people are too dumb to understand what it is that they’re doing. They’re banking on the fact that people will support them no matter what and that nothing will change that support. And I think that what is really important is for every voter, regardless of your background or your party or whatever it is, to understand what’s your line and what is acceptable to you.

AOC: I think there's two things that are happening at once: One, there absolutely is an unprecedented abuse of power, destruction of norms, erosion of our government and our democracy in order to prop up an authoritarian style of governance However, they are weaker than they look, and it is important that we remember that because what they rely on is the impression of power, the perception of inevitability in us giving up in advance Donald Trump is at record levels of unpopularity in his tenure. The Republican house is at record levels of unpopularity. They are underwater across the board and they know it. And that is causing them to double down in public. But it is backfiring. That is why whether it's a shutdown, whether it's all of this, they want us to blink first and we have too much to save.

Gallego: They want to call that the State of the Union. It is a state of denial because what's going to happen under that capital is a bunch of lies, lies that Donald Trump, the Republicans are going to tell us about how great this country is doing right now, but what is true, what is happening right now is that Donald Trump, the Republicans had made this country sicker, poorer, and less secure,

Dexter: It is despicable that the American people are being kept in the dark. What we are doing to the Cuban people is immoral. It is strangling an entire country because of Marco Rubio’s personal vendetta. People don’t have gas or electricity, they can’t go to school, and they have no health care because everything is shut down.

People are hurting. They know that the people on top are doing phenomenally well. They see unprecedented levels of corporate greed. They need to know that someone is standing up and fighting for them.

Massie: They are trying to gaslight folks by saying this is Venezuela’s money even though they have stolen the oil and are selling it. Trump speaks as if he’s going to spend this money any way he pleases. That would be a violation of the Constitution .Pablo Manríquez: What do you make of Trump banking the Venezuelan oil money in Qatar? Massie: I think that was him hedging his bets. I think they were concerned that the courts would seize the money and find what he is doing unconstitutional. I think if they try to spend money outside of the Constitution, they’ll use that pot of money they are keeping in Qatar.
