🚨API IS CHEAPER THAN SUBSCRIPTION. I ONE-SHOT A PLAYABLE MARIO CLONE WITH ONLY $2 OF API CREDITS. Yesterday I posted that Claude MAX 20x gave me less than 4 hours of actual Fable 5.1 usage before I was already at ~77% of my weekly limit. I was genuinely asking...

is also running a 100% top-up bonus right now. yes you literally get 2x of whatever you pay for. $10 → $20 $100 → $200 $500 → $1000 New accounts get $5 free, and using my invite gives another $5:

cool comparison. crazy how much cheaper the MixRoute API is for similar results. nice one!

Profilbild von Abdelrahman Alkerdawy

yes. it was the caching of fable 5.1 that made it cheap. but the 100% bonus on their sign up made it like even 2x cheaper than it is. which makes the the overall like 3x~5x cheaper than subscription.

Such an insightful comparison. Paying $2.00 and getting this good output means the AI is getting cheaper. We just need to find a model and an API provider like @Mixroute_ai that can make this good output possible at such a lower cost.

Profilbild von Abdelrahman Alkerdawy
Abdelrahman Alkerdawyvor 10 Tagen

@MixRoute_ai yes 100%, i believe now at this rate, 100% top-up bonus AND 45% cheaper caching on API than on the sub plan actually made fable 5.1 (the most expensive model) usable through api

Profilbild von Oleks

$2 vs a weekly cap you hit in 4 hours is the whole argument, the api just makes the ceiling visible

i think, seeing this "45% cheaper caching on API" (in the ss down) and then seeing @MixRoute_ai's "100% top-up bonus" and then doing a playable mario with 2$ makes me reconsider Claude's max 20x plan tbh

Difference between subs and api is just to big. It is in order of getting hundred or even thousands times more the price of sub in api price. I was recalculating my outputs on a frw different ones and it is always the same. Doubt it can be made equal so easily.

The real comparison is cost per useful output, not subscription price. If the result is comparable and the API is ~80% cheaper, that’s a hard number to ignore.

Profilbild von Abdelrahman Alkerdawy

well. it was the same fable 5.1 model. and the same input prompt. yet the "45% cheaper caching on api based" + @MixRoute_ai's double credits on every credit you top up made it clear that i could actually continue using chatgpt for example specially after astra, and keep all my fable work on api based since it is more reliable and trackable and moslty less expensive and literally has no "50% of your weekly limit" cap thing just give it a try from my invite link🤗it will give you 5$+5$ anyway so you could literally replicate my experiment!!!!

Hang on --- can you unpack the compare? Did you normalize your usage % into the sub amount? ie $200/mo = $50/week. If prompt A consumes 50% of weekly usage that's $25. Then compare same prompt to router and it's $X? If so: Great way to test and also - Wow!

Pi was built when there were already agent harnesses around. Here’s why Mario Zechner(Mario Zechner), found them suboptimal and built Pi, a minimalist self-modifying agent: #1 - Mario initially was a believer in Claude Code: "I was a believer in Claude code because they were the first that packaged agentic search up in a really compelling package. And at the time that fit my workflow really well. Everything around the LLM was kind of nice and tidy and easy to understand. I was super happy. I was proselytising Claude code." #2 - Reverse engineering Claude Code highlighted the degradation that Mario felt as a user: "I personally like simple tools that are stable and that I can rely on. Even if they have non-deterministic parts, all the deterministic parts should be as stable as possible. That was just not the experience with Claude Code around summer 2025. They would take away your control of the context. They would inject stuff behind your back, which is bad. Then, your workflows stopped working because there's now a system reminder that you don't even see in the UI that would modify the behaviour of the model. They would also do this to the system prompt. I built a little service where I can track the progression or evolution of the system, prompt and tool definitions and, with every release, it was messing with stuff. That just messed with my workflows and I don't appreciate that." #3 - PI was built with an appreciation for simple and reliable tools: "If I commit to a development tool, I want it to be a stable, reliable thing like a hammer. I don't want my hammer to break a different spot every day. That's terrible. We need somebody who goes the full velocity kind of way. But I don't want to work with a tool like that."

OpenAI just mass-fired their robotics team. One of the engineers DM'd me 20 minutes later. I didn't know him. He found me through a Polymarket thread. His first message: "I have 30 days of severance and nothing to lose. Let me tell you what we actually use internally. It's not GPT" I thought he was trolling. "Every serious team at OpenAI prototypes on Claude Code. Not ChatGPT. Not the API. Claude Code connected to a repo. That's the actual workflow" I asked why. "Because Claude reads the codebase. GPT reads the prompt. There's a difference. One guesses. The other one understands the full context and builds on top of it" He sent me one link. 86 million Polymarket trades. Every wallet. Every entry. Every exit. Open source. Free. "Point Claude Code at this. Say - find every wallet with 70%+ win rate and 100+ trades. Watch what happens" I did it that night. Claude pulled 47 wallets in 4 minutes. Average profit: $214K. Hold time: 7 hours. 91% exit BEFORE resolution. They never wait for the outcome. "Now look at how they exit" Top wallets capture 86% of the move and cut at 12%. Everyone else captures 58% and holds losers to 41%. Same entries. Completely different results. He sent another link. "Three commands. Your bot sees 500+ markets. No key needed. Read-only. Claude scores them in 20 minutes" I asked why he's telling me all this. "Because I just got fired for saying we should open-source more. So here I am open-sourcing everything I know" Then he sent me an article where someone built the full bot from these repos in a weekend -> Three exit triggers: Target 85% of move. Volume spike x3 - smart money out. 24h silence - thesis dead. I copied the stack. Claude Code $20. VPS $5. $25/month. No team. No office. No GPT subscription. 17 days. 191 trades. 73% win rate. $850 seed. +$9,400. I sent him my results. He replied: "This is exactly what I built as a side project at OpenAI. They made me delete it" I asked if I could post this. "Post it. What are they gonna do. Fire me again?"

I built a mobile app to check Paddle revenue (because they don't have one): 👉 - Use your Paddle API key (read-only and scoped) - Live data with beautiful and useful graphs built with native Swift UI. - Multi-account supported, unified revenue metrics. - Data stay on device, no server (api requests are sent directly from your phone) - Home widgets - I made it free to download on App Store (once it's approved) - Buy the source code for $19 and customize it however you want (save 5hrs of prompting if you try to do it yourself). Some interesting facts about this side project: - I vibe coded with 100% claude code remotely on my Mac Mini (with my AI assistant setup) in less than 24 hours. - I have read 0 line of code in this project and never opened Xcode myself. - My AI assistant designed the app with GPT Image 2, built the app with Swift UI, test it on simulator (via screenshots), send the test build to TestFlight for me to test, and invited me to the app store connect account so I can test on my phone, then the AI submitted the app to App Store and currently waiting for approval. - For the website, I ask it to come up with a domain name, I bought it via manually and give it access via Cloudflare API, the AI design and create a static website with GitHub, test it with lighthouse CLI, deploy via GitHub pages, config the domain DNS, deploy the website. - Then I sign up an account with Polar payment, create an API key and ask the AI to setup a store, add payment, link with the account, and add the payment to the website. The entire process happened in the last 24 hours with me only talking to the AI via Telegram. This is such a fun side project not only to create an app that I wish exists, but also to push the limit of what I can use AI for, and so far I'm very impressed. I'll create so much more apps! It feels like I have unlocked a super power.

I tested Claude Code on a fresh account - 1,500 lines of HTML cost me 50% of my window. Full video and summary is here.. I just ran a recorded test on Claude Code with a fresh account (Pro, not Max - my main account was 20x Max) , and the result is honestly insane. The task was trivial: create 3 simple demo HTML pages, around 500 lines each. Roughly 1,500 lines of code total. Nothing massive. Nothing enterprise-grade. Nothing that should meaningfully stress a premium coding product. And yet Claude Code burned through 40% of my 5-hour window almost immediately. I ran the exact same test with Codex, and it consumed only 2%. Then it got even worse: after the session ended, I did absolutely nothing for 15 minutes, and Claude still ate another 10%. Total: 50% of the 5-hour window gone for a tiny HTML demo. My weekly usage had already started at 2% before I even really used it, and after this tiny test it jumped to 8%. Now let us be generous and assume this entire run used around 30k tokens total. If 30k tokens represents 10% of weekly usage, that implies around 300k tokens per week. That is roughly 1.2M-1.3M tokens per month, and even if you round up aggressively, you are still in the 1.5M token range. Using the Sonnet 4.6 pricing you list: $3 per 1M input tokens $15 per 1M output tokens How exactly is this supposed to make sense for a paid coding product? Because from the user side, this no longer looks like "premium usage protection." It looks like a quota system that is either wildly inefficient, badly broken, or being accounted in a way users are not being told about. And that is before I even get to my main account: my $200 Max plan now dies in a single day. Just a few months ago, similar or heavier usage would last me about a week. So no, I do not buy the "maybe you just used it more" excuse anymore. Something is clearly broken in Claude Code. Either token accounting is broken, context handling is broken, background consumption is broken, or all three. Alex Albert is this really the experience you want users to pay for? Just watch the video. I tried to be very transparent and clear for your team! I was fan of Claude but just disappointed! And if you want, send me the detailed token accounting for this session and let us inspect it together publicly. Because from where I am standing, this is no longer a small pricing annoyance. It looks like something seriously wrong is happening, and users deserve a real explanation.
