Apparently, merit is expected to wait its turn in India, reservations at every step of the ladder, while merit is left standing at the bottom. If India wants to move forward, merit cannot be held hostage forever.

I have no problem with providing financial support to poor and underprivileged students so that they can study and build a better future. In fact, every deserving student should have access to education regardless of their economic background. But helping the disadvantaged should not mean taking away opportunities from another deserving student solely because of their caste. Economic support is justified; compromising merit and denying a deserving candidate an opportunity because of their social identity is not. The focus should be on poverty, equal opportunity, merit, and academic excellence, not on permanently dividing students by caste. A fair system should support those who genuinely need help while ensuring that deserving students are not denied their rightful opportunities. No one should be deprived of an opportunity they have genuinely earned.

Skill-based institutions should have a minimum competency cutoff for reserved seats. If General cutoff is 95, a reasonable minimum of 80-90 could be set. Below that, no selection. Social justice + standards must go together.

Exactly, social justice should never mean compromising minimum competency; merit and standards must remain non-negotiable.

Merit is biggest demerit in India. Power hungry politicians use Reservations for their own interests and sacrifice country’s interests.

This lady talks as if there is no reservation for the forward class!GC enjoys reservation of 46% of the seats apart from the EWS! That is double when compared to SC/ ST reservation of 22.5% only. She is asking when can this be stopped. It can be stopped when the caste system is abolished fully and all are treated equal. Now 5% brahmins occupy over 80% of all top posts of government, judiciary and the private sector. Why not talk about that? Please do not talk about merit in India. This country doesn't run on reservation, reservation is not there in 98% of jobs and all sectors but except only one that os education, this country runs on nepotism mediocrity cartelisation of brahmin - baniya and few other caste groups.

Very well said, now the time has come for justice to real deserving people. One more commission to find out who all gained from res and who all still far away from reservation benefits. Who gained who lost after 80 yrs of independence is matter of fact to come over backwardness

The benefits of reservation are repeatedly reaching the same families and generations that have already benefited from it for decades.
