Incredible footage shows door gunners in action during the Vietnam War. The door gunner was responsible for operating and maintaining manually directed armaments aboard the helicopter. For most of the Vietnam War, the primary weapon of the door gunner was a medium machine gun. The door gunner position was not particularly popular due to the exposed nature of manning a machine gun in the open door of a helicopter. According to popular legend, the life expectancy of a door gunner on a Vietnam-era Huey gunship was said to be only 5 minutes. Although this figure was clearly exaggerated, it highlights the significant hazards associated with this particular role.

I managed to find rare footage of Omsk’s air defense in action during the recent Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s largest and most valuable oil refinery. The density of the air defense fire is striking. Nevertheless, a Ukrainian FP-1 long-range kamikaze drone somehow managed to break through the heavy Russian air defense response and reached the refinery grounds.
