I've often wondered if Mario would have made one last attempt at the 500 if that wreck had not have happened. That car was running well in practice and he seemed to be enjoying himself.

The IR-03/05 was a friggin' death trap

Whenever i drive by the track on the road behind that short shoot i always looked at the track between the stands. Always wonder if that van driver did the same and got a wild view.

The guy could still probably turn some laps at 220+

What the hell was the IMS safety team doing about track inspections?

The car actually came up and hit the catch fence that came over the track part ways and cheese grated part of the front end off. Mario was very lucky that day.

I’ve never noticed the wrecked car and safety vehicle in the short chute before. Makes sense now. Full speed into an accident scene.
